Standardspeak: What can be shown to be correct. Like, 1 mile equals 1609 metres, meaning it's longer than a kilometre, which equals 1000 metres.
Fundiespeak: What fundies claim the Bible/Koran/Torah/(whatever else) says.
REASON
Standardspeak: The ability to consciously make sense of things, apply logic, establish and verify facts and adjust or discard previously held beliefs if they are shown to be inexact or plain wrong.
Fundiespeak: The ability to automatically deny/overlook anything that conflicts with Scripture, errors or contradictions in Scripture and instantly know how to spin newly discovered facts to make them seem to agree with Scripture even if (*especially* if) they don't.
Nobody has a monopoly on truth! Also, pride (by your definition) is often just a cover-up for insecurity. So instead of stomping them down, how about you instead assure them of their strengths and let them know that their weaknesses don't make them less valuable.
