“The union of two members of the same sex is simply not marriage.”
I’ve heard a similar argument from a Catholic. To his view, ‘marriage’ is a sacrament MEANING a ritual performed in a Catholic Church. Baptists or Mormons or Methodists performing their rites detracts from the beauty and authenticity of thee Catholic Act.
I wasn’t terribly impressed. All of them use the same state form for the license. Also for purely secular Justice Of The Peace ceremonies.
"To say that it is, leaves the union that marriage has always been without a word to identify it.”
It’s still marriage. I went and found our marriage license after this state legalized samesex marriages. It was fine, the words didn’t burn from the paper like the case in Indiana Jones. I introduced my wife as my wife and no one looked confused.
“If we begin to assign the word “cat” to dogs, we are left without a word to describe that small feline that people have for pets.”
Tabby, kitty, domesticated lions, annoying little fur goblins that won’t stop eating plastic, weird dogs…
“Further, changing the name of a thing does not change the nature of what that thing is. A rose by any other name is still a rose.”
I dunno. If we changed ‘Rose’ to ‘fartstain’ they won’t be used in NEARLY as many poems.
"The relationship of two people of the same sex will always be that—regardless of what one calls it.”
Just say, ‘I’m A Bigot,’ we’ll figure the rest out.
"It will never ever be the union of two persons whose individual sexualities complement and complete each other in every way.”
When Britney Spears was married for half a weekend, did they completely complement each other?
“Only marriage is that. We are talking honesty here.”
No, you’re expressing your bigotry, here.
“To say that two different things are the same is simply not the truth!”
But the government that gets to DEFINE the thing is saying that there’s no secular reason to divide these three things. YOU hate it and it concerns yuo. That’s just a bonus for the legal progress.
