[Thread is about pokemon being evil or not]
we will just have to agree to disagree on this subject. (No, I do not think my views make me any better or higher on the Christian walk than anyone else.)
I just never wanted my kids to play at anything that we related to demons or anything that would make them dwell on the 'dark side's characters'. That is also why we gave up Halloween and Santa.

Ah yes, Santa. That evil old bastard with his jolly laugh and gifts for all. What a vile disgusting and dark creature he was.
By the way dipshit, Santa was based on the work of a 4th century Greek Christian Bishop who was famous for his generosity toward children and the poor. How very demonic, right?
You know, if Pokemon were actually related to demons, or the "dark side" in any fashion except for the implicit super-secret manner that fundies rant on about, then Pokemon would actually be popular with teenagers rather than 10 year olds. It would just be a demographic shift! But, you see, despite the first thing coming into your head when you see a tiny monster being called to battle from a round object being "DEMONIC SUMMONING PACT!!!," there really is no reason for you to presume that to be true. They are cutesy monsters that you bulk up in standard RPG form, and that is it.
Also: WTF, SANTA?!??!?!
You know, I've had a brainwave on a possible reason why fundies hate Pokemon. It's because Pokemon endorses (amongst other things) tolerance.
@Wondershocked: Pff, I could probably beat that Charizard with a level 5 Phanpy (yes, that is spelled correctly) or a level 5 Rattata (there are probably other Pokemon that would work as well). Yes, both of these are actually doable, if your opponent isn't prepared for the trap.
I out-nerd you.
In that case, don't get angry if they call you superstition, as well as ethnocentric. Pokemon comes from Japan, a non-Christian country, so they can't be talking about demons, at least the judeo-Christian concept.
Santa is evil because he's trying to replace Jesus (Christmas should apparently be nothing but shoving Baby Jesus in people's faces, regardless of their beliefs) and because his name is "Satan" rearranged.
I'm serious. Those are the reasons.

admit it, youre proud of your ego filled self, and you think that all other christians are inferior to yourself.

Hmm yet you tell your children its ok to worship a God that murders his own son. Brilliant. Oh and youre a closet atheist.
@ mog santa wears red, satan is red. santa flies with reindeer, satan flies with wings. santa has elves, satan has imps. Santa goes down chimneys, and satan supposedly breaks into houses..... there are more reasons that christian fundies freak out about santa but thats as many as i can think of. Oh and if you scramble santa you get satan.
@Chamale: I forget which item you need it to hold, but it's the one that prevents the holder from being KO'd in one attack (one of the scarves, I believe). Then the level 5 Pokemon gets brought down to 1 HP from the Charizard's first attack, after which it strikes with Endeavor to return the favour. Finish Charizard off with Quick Attack (Rattata) or Ice Shard (Phanpy), both of which strike first.
Obviously, this all requires breeding, and doesn't always work on all Pokemon (though you'd rarely come across a Charizard that it wouldn't work on), but it's hilarious when it happens. I saw someone do it on the big screen at a Pokemon tournament. I just lack the dedication to a
On topic: Obviously, these people think Santa's evil because he's based off St Nicholas, a Catholic saint.
you know, I always found the idea of a large man breaking into my house in the middle of the night and dropping off suspicious packages quite disturbing. In fact I remember writing to Santa and asking him not to come to my house, and if he could just send the presents to my mum.
Your kids are going to grow up to be incredibly culture-less, bored, uneducated and dreadfully pent-up individuals begging for an outlet. I hope you're able to cope with the eventual snap, Mrsp-- alphabet soup named fundie.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
