Don't push this too far, gay men. There's a reason why gay men were brutally repressed in every society until the Western Societies of the past 20 years -- the potential forces of violence arrayed against you are infinitely greater than anything you can muster.

Everything you enjoy now is "dependent on the kindness of strangers" Stay tolerant to get tolerance. You may have pushed things as far as they can go. If so, live with it. If you break down religion you may also break down the institutions that restrain violence being visited on you.

Don't push this too far, idiots. There's a reason why Christianists brutally oppress gay people in many (not all) societies, until gays in Western Societies since the late 1960s began to challenge the tangible forces of violence arrayed against them. But the determination of gay people not to accept anything less than full equality is infinitely greater than anything Christianists can muster.

Everything you enjoy now is the result of your efforts and the kindness of those who are not bigoted about recognising your rights. Stay tolerant to all except the intolerant. They may have pushed things as far as they can go. If so, they have to live with it. Remember that in breaking down religion you are also breaking down the institutions that resisted any tolerance towards you, sometimes with extreme violence your very right to life itself. Remember also that religion is now very weak in most of the world it is seen as hypocricy, and carries the shame of child abuse that decency no longer allows it hide under is clerical garb. Yet another example of its institutional violence being visited on innocents.

The release last week of the Report on Sexual Abuse in Dublin Diocese has shocked and horrified people. It should be made compulsory reading for Brian, who can see nothing wrong with religion.

Christianity got a stranglehold on such societies? You do know lesbians were repressed as well don't you?

Actually with the way tides are turning, it seems people are starting to become more accepting of gays. It's you guys who are losing your bigoted stranglehold on society. It is you and other fundamentalist christians who are responsible for the suffering gays face. You should be grateful our country's principles of free speech allow you to preach christian fascism. Don't like it? North Korea has gulags complete with gas chambers for political prisoners. Perhaps you could do us all a favor and die in one.

It's easy, really. Uncivilized people tend to have an irrational fear of the unknown. The more civilized you get, the more tolerant you get.
Sadly this is not a continuing factor. Great civilizations have gone under, reverted to barbarism, or (during the Dark Ages) been repressed by the Church.

I bet most gays are as religious as heteros are. If they are not religious, it probably is because religious people have been bullying them, until they no longer felt welcome.
Ie most have no inclination to "break down religion".
And what do you mean with "restrain violence being visited on you"? Thousands of gays are assaulted and/or murdered each year around the world. We see no restraint at all.

Methinks Brian here would have aneurysms over the thought of the currently-airing anime series "Girls und Panzers", a scenario in which operating tanks is considered a very feminine and honourable pursuit! (expanding on the Japanese concept of the 'Yamato Nadeshiko'; the 'ideal' of womanhood - whilst calm and ladylike, but possessing a 'Core of Iron' - re. the WWII cruiser Yamato - and expected to defend her household. Japanese women of this type were taught the use of the deadly Naginata; indeed, this polearm-esque weapon was included in her dowry, thus the operation of tanks in "Girls und Panzers" is seen as the ultimate expression of this 'martial art' for women)

...my only criticism of this series which makes females awesome via mobile armour, is that it doesn't feature 21st Century hardware: why couldn't they drive Challenger IIs, M1 Abrams, Leclercs, Leopard IIs, Merkavas, T-90s, Type 99s & Pokpung Ho-s?! (*grump*) >:(
