Okay bright guy, prove how atheism is based on evolution since it predates Darwin, by say 6000 years according to your own "Bible"? Two, Quote the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Define entrophy. Three, Explain why the laws of the land do not apply to atheists if they want to murder someone, according to fundies? Four, magic is religion's stock in trade, only an idiot(or a fundie) expects instant transformation of one species into another, evolution teaches better. It only states that there needs to be an input of energy to a system to keep that systm stable. It does not affect evolution in any way.

JD, I can't say what the poster means (it doesn't make much sense, and the monkey-into-human thing is highly obnoxious) but entropy applies to everything in the known universe. The sun and stars included. I've never known anyone to talk about entropy meaning the body or even just the earth as the enclosed system, but as all energy in the universe.

JD and Skeptical: I think that when fundies trot out this talking point about entropy and closed systems, they're thinking about all of the universe, not a local area. They argue that no energy can come into the universe from outside, because there is no outside, and they ignore the temperature disparities closer to them.
That is what I was saying, Chan. Naturally, the energy outside the earth is and can be used to create growth and sophistication. The point creationists generally make about that is that because of entropy, even that energy is essentially finite. That it is being used up all the time (or rendered nonusable.) That stars will eventually burn out and ALL usable energy will eventually be used up (converted to unusable energy.) Which means, they say, that if the universe is winding down, it must have once been wound up. That it had to actually start somewhere. Did all that usable energy come from nothing, or was it created, in other words.

I am an atheist and I don't get to kill anyone, I have sex only with those who wish to have sex with me (and not even all of them) and I usually have no more than three drinks in a week (mostly on different days). Am I missing out on the joys of atheism? Is your religion the only thing holding you back from rape and murder and drug abuse?

Well, all I can say is that as far as the universe being a closed system, it's safe to say cosmologists expect entropy to get us if nothing else does. "Cold particle soup" is one word I've heard used, but that doesn't prevent localized decreases in entropy from being possible. Just remember, while the Earth may be decreasing in energy, the core of the Sun will eventually crunch down to iron, which is basically the end of the line before complete collapse, which can't happen in a star the size of the sun anyway.

Believe what; evolution or atheism? The two have nothing to do with each other. Plenty of people believe in both God and evolution. The Catholic Church, for example, sees no incompatibility between the two.
Also, if a monkey turned into a human before your eyes, that would be proof of God , not evolution, since it would require a magic violation of the laws of physics. If it made you believe in evolution, it would prove you have zero understanding of the subject, because evolution doesn't claim monkeys turn into humans.

The "Second Law" argument has been dead for years. You won't find ID guys like Michael Behe and William Dembski using this silly argument. If this argument were valid, it would equally prove the impossibility of photosynthesis.

Plenty of creationists kill people and have sex with anyone they want. They are no better on this score than anyone else. Generally, religious people commit a higher proportion of crimes than atheists.
