Belief can change reality. If you believe God can physically heal your body then He can work and do so, but if you do not believe then you will never be healed. Case in point, walking on water. We know that reality dictates that no one can walk on water unless he defies a few laws of nature, yet we know that Jesus walked on water and Peter did also.

Tell that to the parents from that church in Oregon, or where ever, who are on trial for criminal neglect because they prayed over their sick children, rather than get them the medical care that would have saved their lives.
And christians call themselves pro-life?
I'm so glad my parents adhered to the "God helps those who help themselves" philosophy. I had a childhood illness, and thanks to modern medicine, NOT prayer, I'm living a perfectly normal, healthy life now, and missed very little of my childhood.
Oh, and prove (without saying the Bible said so) that Jesus walked on water.

*pulls out a pistol and shoots Shephatiah twice in the groin* Prove it.

"I saw a guy do that. 'Magicians Greatest Secrets Revealed' I think."
Actually, it was Criss Angel whom I saw pull that off in a large pool, on his TV show Mindfreak .
Your god is a fictional character, he can do nothing.
You have ZERO credible evidence that your Jesus walked on water, but I have very credible evidence that Chris Angel did:

OK, that's your theory, test it! Believe that you're a billionaire and become one by belief alone, none of that self help baloney, pure belief alone, nothing else - do it! Better still, believe real hard that kinetic energy doesen't exist and stand in the path of an oncoming train.
...yet we know that Jesus walked on water and Peter did also.
Proof?
Also even if it was proved, does not mean your god exists.
Clarke's third law. Heck, it could be even just an illusion.
yet we know that Jesus walked on water and Peter did also
No, we don´t know this.
We don´t even know if the original of the bible says this about Jesus. There are some speculations that it might have been mistranslated and that the original rather said that Jesus walked at the beach ;)
(aside from the fact that accounts written half a century after Jesus alleged death at the cross by people who never met him in person aren´t exactly what we would call a trustful eye witness account ;) )
Walking on water is easy ,in fact I did so yesterday
It had been raining and the pavements (sidewalks for our American friends ) were wet and I walked to the shops.
I was walking and there was water beneath my feet, so I must have been walking on water.
"Belief can change reality. If you believe God can physically heal your body then He can work and do so"
Yup, as Mark 16:17-18 says, anyone who truly believes can drink deadly poisons and not be harmed.
But mention this and everyone suddenly becomes a "doubting Thomas".
"Case in point, walking on water."
"Priest dies after trying to walk on water."
Reality 1, Belief 0.
"Belief can change reality."
No, belief can change your *perception* of reality. Belief can convince you that hatred is a good thing, that being narrow-minded, judgemental and bigoted are virtues.
"yet we know that Jesus walked on water and Peter did also."
No, we *don't* know that. We know someone made up a story about a fictional character who walked on water, nothing more.
"Belief can change reality."
Yes, and here is the sad explanation: People who confuse inner and outer reality of course achieve alteration of "outer reality" by means of belief. Of course they only change their inner being. The term is schizophrenia, as usual.
For the sake of the people, religion must be outlawed!
If you believe God can physically heal your body then He can work and do so, but if you do not believe then you will never be healed.
If God wants to heal you, why doesn't He just go ahead and do it? Do emergency room doctors let you die unless you "believe" they can help you? Shephatiah makes God sound like a petty, egotistical prick.
Actually, we know that the Bible says/i] Jesus and Peter walked on water. And those books of the Bible were written decades after the fact, so it's quite possible that certain details were embellished.
"Belief can change reality."
That's called delusion.
"If you believe God can physically heal your body then He can work and do so, but if you do not believe then you will never be healed."
And if you believe, but it doesn't happen, then you weren't doing it right, or you didn't believe enough, or it's part of "God's plan" that you die. So really, all the bases are covered and God still gets credit for spontaneous remissions. Pardon me while I puke.
"Case in point, walking on water. We know that reality dictates that no one can walk on water unless he defies a few laws of nature, yet we know that Jesus walked on water and Peter did also."
Occam's razor says, "LIE!"
"Belief can change reality"
Ok, then! I believe that all Rupture Ready'ers are now gone from the earth. I truly believe this to be the case.
But you're still there, aren't you you little cheeky monkeys.
Stop reading The Secret. It's full of bullshit.
> yet we know that Jesus walked on water and Peter did also
I don't know about that Jesus bloke because he was a bit before my time, but I certainly saw Peter Sellars walk on water.
"Belief can change reality."
It's called the Placebo Effect. And no, it has nothing to go with god, and it won't help you walk on water.
As much as you want it to, belief cannot change reality. I can believe that the moon is made of sugar, but it does not make it any sweeter. No matter how hard I believe it or how many people I brainwash into believing it too.
"Reality is what DOESN'T change when your beliefs do."
That and, Life is what's happening while you're making other plans.
Give me a time machine and I'll live like a fat rat [Thanks, Jay.] in those days. A few stones just below the surface of the water, a few first-aid tips and today's level of knowledge as to how to sound like a cool motherfucker while just being a faker - I'd live like a king.
> Belief can change reality. If you believe God can physically heal your body then He can work and do so
Sounds awfully like witchcraft to me. Obviously, Shephatiah is not one of those nuts who want to ban Harry Potter.
Ingesting the flesh and blood of the founder of their religion for good fortune is *definitely* witchcraft.
"yet we know that Jesus walked on water and Peter did also."
How do we know that? By reading a book?
Then we also know that "Oculus Reparo" will repair broken glasses. I've read THAT in a book.
I believed for months and months that "THIS month I would be pregnant". And believe you me, that belief was REALLY strong.
It didn't work, though...
@ John-in_Oz
Reality is what DOESN'T change when your beliefs do.
That was very nicely phrased!
We don't know anything of the sort. We know they were alleged to have walked on water, but just because it says so in a book means nothing.
"Know" is not a word whose true meaning is widely understood in fundieland.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
