I just don't understand it...... it just sickens me to the core. These little babies do feel pain. Did you know that their tiny heart begins beating at 5 weeks? To put this in perspective, at 4 weeks you miss your period. Most don't even know they're pregnant until welll after 5 weeks. This little life already has a beating heart!!!!

These girls....... most of them I'm sure don't know this information. They aren't making an informed decision. They are teenagers! Oh Lord, please, please open the eyes of these children and help them to see how precious life is......

I am pregnant now, and I cry when I think about how this little life got there. God placed this little baby into my womb! He gave me the gift of life inside me....... It sends chills down my spine to think that God has his hand on me and is creating this life inside me. It also gives me chills to see so many girls throwing that away without another thought......

* If women were taught about their bodies and not taught to be ashamed of them, they'd actually guess they were pregnant about the 3rd week, which is when most OTC tests can show a result too.

* Again, if they were taught their bodies aren't the "evil" that I was taught (in my yankee public high school even) I'd have paid more attention when we WERE taught about the development of the fetus and had all that info.

* However, despite the rest of my bullet points, we are still talking about a fetus, a clump of potential child, a parasite by definition, and something that often spontaneously aborts itself.

PS I'm a bit bitter because in 1992 or so a crazy lady outside gave me a bunch of pictures of supposed "disposed" babies as well as a plastic fetus outside the hospital... I was having a mole removed, but I guess teenager + hospital = abortion to her. Funny how their literature, which I read completely, only served to cement my opinion of CHOICE.

Not at the stage that the vast majority of abortions are performed. You are either misinformed, or deliberatly decietful. Not only do they not feel pain, they do not have mental ability to process or conceptualize pain.

Pain can only be perceived by organisms with nerves that have the ability to detect damage to the body and transmit that information to the brain which, in turn, interprets those signals as pain. Nerves do NOT develop first in fetuses, so a young enough fetus is physically incapable of feeling pain.

This is also why I have absolutely no problem feeding live insects to my pets (most insects don't have nerves that can detect pain).

And despite what fundies think, teens today are far more informed about sex and the potential consequences of sex than they ever have been. The fact that many teens have the mentality of "it'll never happen to me" and often can't think of the long-term future is another matter entirely.

Oh, and pregnancy occurs because of biology and a little luck (so very many things can go wrong). Yes, I can understand how a person can see it as a miracle, but give the father a little credit will ya?

You have every right to consider abortion wrong, and to be upset if you believe that girls are making this decision without full information. Unfortunately, you have demonstrated that you can't tell the difference between real information (the heart begins beating at about 5 weeks) and stupidity (the embryo is fully concious and feels pain.) As such, perhaps you should let competent people work on providing the complete information, while you can do things like reducing the stigma against getting pregnant before marriage, raising support for young single mothers, and promoting comprehensive sex education. These are all things that could actually reduce the abortion rate. Certainly, they will be more effective than telling your fellow pro-lifers how much it hurts your feeling to think about abortion.

I hope you're talking about 5 weeks after birth here, which would make the statement obviously true. 5 weeks post-conception, though -- you're full of shit. First of all, pain is an experience involving a brain and a nervous system, neither of which have formed by week 5. Calling a 5-weeks-of-development future human a "baby" is also quite a stretch -- and demeans actual babies by comparison.

Minus the fact you don't believe God created the life, is it really fair to mock someone just because this girl is saddened by what she views as murder? If it is a woman's choice, as you believe, and this girl is a woman...then essentially you are saying HER choice is LESS VALID than the choice to abort. Which isn't exactly fair is it?

It goes something like this: You're entitled to your own opinions, but you're not entitled to your own facts. When people like you and Tma! back up your "beliefs" with testable claims, they're no longer just opinions -- they're claims of fact. And when those claims are false, then yeah, some of us will mock you.

Uh, by the time you miss your period, you've been fertilised for about 2 weeks and pregnant for maybe 1, depending on what level of attachment to the endometrium you consider to be enough. The "last period" calculation is just to make counting easy using months.

Most physicians consider actual pregnancy not to start for 11-13 days after conception: its at that point only that it starts generating hormones and has survived long enough that it'll probably be viable as a fetus in the future.

Its about 3 weeks after conception that the little tadpole thing starts having a heartbeat. But anyone with their brain intact can tell you hearts don't fucking matter here; its just a fucking blood pump. Almost can't be detected for a while longer anyways.

It will still, visually, still be utterly indistinguishible from chicken, pig, frog, dog or elephant embryos for another 1-2 weeks. In fact, it has a tail and fucking gills.

You don't even start having the reptilian/autonomous sections of the brain truly starting to form till about 2 months after your eggs got all spermed up.

Most abortions are done before 3 months, when it even starts to look like it'll be human. If you're gonna say your god put that in you (as opposed to you and your boyfriend), then you'll have to accept that all those miscarriages that happen AFTER 3 months, well, those are his being an asshole.

There are millions of children in our few remaining orphanages and in the foster care system who need good homes, but, nope, you won't take any of them. You have to have a healthy newborn, or you'll take your parenting toys and go home.

If you can't love a child unless it's either popped out of your womb or you got your hands on it fresh out of a womb, really, you don't need to be raising children.

Thank goodness for Roe v. Wade for making orphanages a thing of the past--and making it harder for brain-dead asswipes to get their hands on a kid.

I was on a very high dose of an anti-convulsant medication when I fell pregnant, a medication with a history of causing severe birth defects.

My husband and I were in a position to have a baby, so we kept it, but my neurologist highly recommended I have a few ultrasounds to check that the development of the baby was going as normal.

My baby developed without the left side of it's brain.

I opted for a termination, rather than give birth to a child that would definately be either one of these:

* Dead before birth
* Dead upon arrival
* Dead shortly after arrival
* Connected to life support and a drooling, expressionless, barely human meat sack it's entire life

The way things went, I was able to have a burial for my child, I was able to keep my fertility, I was able to take comfort that I'd done the right thing and I'd saved us both a whole lifetime of emotional trauma.

God forgive me for being so evil. I had no idea doing the humane thing would be so damn awful.

I'm sorry for your pain. Waiting for a child you know is unlikely to come cannot be easy. However, you have allowed your wish for a child to lead you to an unethical conclusion. You do not have a right to a child. It is not the responsibility of some pregnant girl to provide you with one. I hope you get the child you want, but trying to force someone else to bear it for you is contemptible.

I actually do believe that god created the life, and I don't think I mocked her for being sad, though I know some did. What I object to is not her opinion or her feelings, but her misinformation. That is probably biggest problem with the pro-life movement in general: in my research on abortion, I have seen a preponderance of dishonesty and manipulation from them. A certain ammount of manipulation is to be expected in any advocacy movement, but outright lies cross the line.

I believe that the poster is married, in which case she is not in the same position that the girls she is talking about are in, but I know people who are or were in that position who have chosen to have the child. I have great respect for those people. Again, what I object to is not her choice to continue her pregnancy, but her choice to spread lies about fetal development in the hopes of controlling other people's choices. She may not be spreading those lies intentionally, but that does not make them true. If this is a subject that is important to her, it is her responsibility to make sure that she is not undermining her own position by spreading falsehoods about it.

It kind of reminds me of that old joke:
