[No religion and an end to war: how the "learned" see the future]
Wow, some of the 'thinkers' are deluded. I don't know of any true Christian that will be leaving the faith just because of information overload (the net). I also doubt they will find many followers of Islam, Hinduism, or Buddhism changing just because of easier access to info and new scientific discoveries.
To their amazement, they will find that in the next decades religion will become even more prevalent -- besides which they too have a religion, in many cases, it's agnosticism (or false-atheism).

Yeah, I doubt that too. It's hard to reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

I expect that fundamental/evangelical/pentecostal Xianity AND atheism with become more prevalent in the coming decades, mostly at the expense of mainstream/moderate Xianity.

Repeat after me (and don't just move your lips while you read): Atheism is NOT a religion, it is NOT a faith, it is NOT against theism .. it has NOTHING to do with religions or theists other than to be WITHOUT (a-) RELIGION (theist).

The article, they are commenting , may be too optimistic. I hope it isn't. Anyhow, these fundies are quite possibly right about being too willfully obtuse to get a clue.

Imagine a world without wars, crime or superstitions. Where scientists have uncovered the very secrets of the atom, the cell, and the human genome. Genetic diseases can be predicted and cured before they even begin, AIDS and cancer research will have reached frutition. Global warming, deforestation, and the burning of fossil fuels will cease with the discovery of hydrogen power and other alternate fuel resources. And for some reason fundies want to pull us back into the Dark Ages with them.
Aside from the fact that this argument seems to be contesting a point no one made, I actually agree with it.
I agree as anyone who follows science that we can't neglect the possibilty of a God as it can't be proved, but the faith of an atheist, or agnoticism, does not make for a religion of any kind; and religion may become more prevalent as modern society ostrocises more people...I guess it's nice to belong? Just don't be surprised if people aren't following yours...
