At a debate in Fort Worth on Monday, a Republican candidate for the Texas state board of education warned that the board is currently “using your tax dollars to brainwash our children into socialist issues and ideas.”
The candidate, Lady Theresa Thombs, also decried “people from socialist higher education” who support the teaching of evolution, a subject still hotly debated in the Texas Education Agency.
“We know we didn’t come from monkeys!” she exclaimed.
Thombs made her remarks at a debate hosted by a Tea Party group, the 912 Project Fort Worth.
Bud Kennedy of the Star-Telegram reports that Thombs considers herself an “international evangelist” who is “running to fight — her spellings — ‘adgendas and ideoligies.’”
She also believes she is running to defeat “Devil worshipers”:

This is why all political candidates must be tested to make sure they are mentally balanced.
Although, it's nice for a couple of laughs.
Sorry, is Lady“ her first name or is she part of the British nobility?
Also, “Lady”, someone who cannot spell agenda and ideology correctly maybe shouldn’t rant against education. Just sayin’.
Funny, I was never bombarded with evolution when attending engineering school, clearly a "higher education" institution.
@TheImperfect: If such a test were administered, there would be no one to run for office. All politicians are crazy, liars and cheats for their own individual causes.
"Lady"? I thought there were no nobility in the US, that all were created equal.
Evolution is a scientific issue and idea, not a socialist one.
Yeah, damn those of higher learning! Those educated heathens! Socialists, all of them! You are so right to stay stupid and fundie, Terry!
Dearie, why don't you learn proper grammar and spelling, before you try to manage difficult things like Biology and Social Studies.
We have Devil worshipers who cannot wait to vote.
Don't want to freak you out or anything, but I'm sure plenty of Satanists vote.
Should I tell her they don't actually worship Satan, or should I just let her keep believing that and watch the comedy unfold?
@TheImperfect
Being mentally unbalanced seems to be a requirement for the Republican party nowadays.
1) I trust "Lady" is her first name, otherwise Ms Thombs seems to have forgotten the United States is a republic.
2) The "liberal grannie who thinks the Devil is right"? If such a person exists, it is likely she made the reasonable point that if TT believes that anyone who opposes her is the Devil, then the Devil is right.
3) It sounds like TT has "adgendas" and "ideologies" of her own; it also sounds like she knows nothing of higher education in Fort Worth like, uh, Texas Christian University or Texas Wesleyan University.
These people continue to become parodies of themselves. The thing that's truly frightening is that they have a chance of gaining political power.
adgendas and ideoligies.’
We don't need no book learnin'.
I've always felt we should not allow anyone who cannot at least win runner-up standing in a fifth grade spelling bee to run for public office.
That way, this loser wouldn't be able to run for county dog catcher.
"the board is currently “using your tax dollars to brainwash our children into socialist issues and ideas.”
That's why we have to get the Republic members off the board, We don't want any more of that socialism.
@aebars:
It will be here for a long time because 30% of the American population is blithering bozos.
Is this our future? There are too many of these morons in politics for them to just be some kind of fluke. Fuck, I'm depressed now. The normal fundies amuse me and sometimes revolt me. All of the fundies who have power? They make me consider turning to drinking just so I can cope. They might actually win this "culture war" they declared on everyone else.
And by the way, if higher education leads to socialism and accepting the Theory of Evolution, then maybe socialism and the Theory of Evolution aren't the problem. People who educate themselves as doctor become better doctors. People who educate themselves in mathematics become better mathematicians. If you educate yourself in science and that leads you to supporting ToE then it's certainly not from being a worse scientist.

After Ted Cruz's father opened his primary breathing hole I wouldn't be so sure about that. A disturbing number of fundie conservatives seem to think the US needs to be a monarchy and a theocracy.

Theresa Thumbs Up Your Arse, say hello to Kanzi:

The fact that this Bonobo can communicate with humans in sign language; also make fire and cook food with it, being the least of your problems. These abilities not shown in the above pic. But what Kanzi has, is .
Can you say 'Cyberattacks'? I know you can. You don't learn how to do that, by reading a book of fairytales. Three words: China. North Korea.
In Soviet Beijing & Pyongyang, God worships you .

Hey, we Brits are willing to forgive and forget, re. a little kerfuffle in a certain city, where all that good Tea was thrown away ; and we do have a state religion, so Lady Theresa Thumbs Up Your Arse, and Cruzzy-boy...! [/hyper-paradox] >:D
You have to be seriously stupid or seriously backward to publicly state with a straight face that "evolution is still hotly debated." Then again, this is Texas. If dinosaurs ever magically reappeared, they'd feel right at home there.
Lady's siblings are named Laddie, and Lassie, with a few relatives named King, Prince, and Rover. ;-)

"Lady" is the kind of name you give a female dog. )
Here's one thing I'll say right now.
If she actually believed there were devil worshippers, she'd be hiding in the bush with those other survivalist losers.
You can only find a few stupid enough to believe silver-spooned stupid here is in a battle with evil.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
