[In reply to "And then the atheists will finally realize what a world is like without Christians and God's protection."]
Funny you should say that buzz! I once read where atheists obviously don't believe in God, however...they are glad that there are people on this Earth that do. Why would they say such a curious thing...Their answer was that they know that Christians, for the most part, are good people who care about others and make this planet a better place to live by balancing out people who do not do these kinds of things. What a shame they can't draw a correlation between the two!

Oh right, yeah. Because Christians are the only people capable of being good and caring about others. You are the noble paladins bravely going around being nice while literally everybody else is an asshole.
That's why Renaissance Italy was such a wholesome and noble place and Buddhist temples are notorious dens of prostitution, murder and corruption.
OH WAIT
I once read where atheists obviously don't believe in God, however...they are glad that there are people on this Earth that do.
That's because you keep claiming that your faith is the only thing keeping you from running around raping and murdering and looting for the fun of it. If your faith really is the only thing keeping you from doing that, we want you in the pew every Sunday. However, some of us don't need a crutch like religion to be decent human beings. We've got empathy, rationality, logic and the common values on our culture for that.
Their answer was that they know that Christians, for the most part, are good people who care about others and make this planet a better place to live by balancing out people who do not do these kinds of things. What a shame they can't draw a correlation between the two!
We can...we just know that correlation doesn't equal causation. And we know it doesn't because we also encounter non-Christians who are good people, and Christians who are not good people, and non-Christians who are not good people. And considering that most of those good Christians balk at the idea of slavery, mass murder and rape, things which are not only condoned, but ENCOURAGED in your holy book, that's a pretty good indication that good Christians are good in spite of their faith, not because of it.
Coincidence =/= correlation.
"Their answer (lying for Jesus,) was that they know that (INSERT: belief system here EXCLUDE exploitative "Leaders") (Christians/Muslims/atheists/Jews/Buddhists/Hindu/Shinto/Other) for the most part, are good people who care about others and make this planet a better place to live by balancing out people who do not do these kinds of things."
There. Fixed, bigot.
You want to find God? Go to any prison. They seem to find God there all the time.
I once read where adults obviously don't believe in the boogeyman*, however...they are glad that there are children that do, 'cuz it keeps 'em in line!
Same argument, different boogeyman.
* from Wiki: "an amorphous imaginary being used by adults to frighten children into compliant behavior"
"...they know that Christians, for the most part, are good people who care about others and make this planet a better place...."
Yes, because the Inquisitions and Crusades made the world a better place by people who cared about others. And Fred Phelps really strengthens your argument there too.
Personally, I am not glad there are people who believe in God. God belief has been the worst thing to ever happen to humanity. It's held back science, and even to this day there are people who would scrap science in favor of religious superstition. Not to mention the hordes of religious believers who want to force their delusion upon everyone else.
It has been my experience that the good Christians "who care about others and make this planet a better place to live" are the kind who do NOT wear their christianity on their sleeves.
On the other hand, people who make sure that every good thing they do gets attributed to their religion are no better than anyone else ... and often a lot worse.
Personally, I do not care whether another person is Christian, Islamic, Scientologist or anything else, provided they are able and willing to put their religious faith aside on matters that require reason. This applies to matters of science, politics and economics (i.e. the three demons of the fundamentalist world). The Founding Fathers were able to do this quite effectively, proving that it can be done. The inability of modern day fundamentalists to follow their example illustrates their worthlessness in the modern world.
Hope that makes it clear DAVEBOY
absolutely true. We know that no christian would lie, cheat , steal, kill, commit adultery or fornication or brak any other of Gods commandments like wearing mixed fibres , eating shellfish or pork.
*tiny voice from the back * what about Haggard then ?
Haggard is completely heterosexual !!!
Patton Oswalt has a funny bit about this idea in his last special, except the point of his perspective was, "If there are millions of people who are capable of unwaveringly believing things as crazy as most religious stories, living with the people who are compelled to be "nice" because they think there will be a supernatural consequence otherwise is probably the best possible scenario the rest of us could hope for."
It's simple. Here's a bit of logic for you to chew on.
1. Some Christians are good people.
2. Some non-Christians are good people.
Thus
3. Some people are good regardless of their religion.
So there is no direct correlation with being good and being of a certain religion.
Amazing isn't it?
Question: if atheists lack morality, as you seem to believe, what is the reason for us wanting to live in a moral world, as you obviously do realise?
You've never heard of Richard Dawkins, have you?
You don't have a monopoly on morality, dickwad.
atheists obviously don't believe in God
Holy crap! You actually acknowledged it instead of asserting that we secretly hate him or work for the devil! There's hope for you yet!
they are glad that there are people on this Earth that do
I'm indifferent, actually, and that's the way it ought to be. It only bothers me when people try to force their religious rules on everyone else.
Christians, for the most part, are good people who care about others and make this planet a better place to live
Yup...and then there's the RR, Teaper, Freeper, Moonbattery, and Conservapedia crowd that want to make everyone else's lives worse because they don't enjoy theirs.
What a shame they can't draw a correlation between the two!
What correlation? The one that shows that the less religious countries have less violent crime?
{I once read where atheists obviously don't believe in God, however...they are glad that there are people on this Earth that do. }
And I bet your source for this had at least one of the terms 'Christian', 'Bible', 'Rapture', 'God's Word' or 'Jesus' somewhere in it's name, and that the writer was a fundie projecting on atheists.
I find it funny how low this quote's Fundie Index is. If your generalization were correct, then fundamentalist Christian politicians such as Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich would not be hypocritical douchebags, and the secular paradises of Canada or Scandinavia would be the worst of all Third-World countries. Clearly, you are totally wrong, Davie-boy.
It's true that some "Atheists" say this garbage. And things like "I wish I could believe in god" or , "faith is a good thing it helps people."
But these "atheists" aren't much better than the religious IMO. If you recognize that god is not real but can't understand how much belief in imaginary things can harm the earth you are a moron and just as bad as the religious IMO.
So fuck you bro. I hate to use the one true scotsman fallacy but "true atheists" would never say that bullshit you just said they would.
I once read where atheists obviously don't believe in God, however...they are glad that there are people on this Earth that do.
You did not read that because no atheist (or agnostic) ever said it.
Lying for Jebus is still lying.
Really, people? Y'all have never seen an atheist say "they are glad that there are people on this Earth that do" believe in god?
I've seen it in the comments on this website many times.
It usually follows a fundie comment of "Without god there you can't have morality. If I didn't believe in hell, I'd be raping and looting and killing and talking at the theater."
And someone (or several people) will always respond with something along the lines of "If that's the only thing keeping you from becoming a psychopath, please keep believing."
To be completely honest, most Christians are decent people though I really don't attribute that to their religion.
Fundamentalists scare the crap out of me.
@ Brendan Rizzo
"...and the secular paradises of Canada.."
I WISH we were a secular 'paradise'.If only...
BUT, those who say they have no religious affiliation is ever increasing over time,so whoot for that. I don't know exactly how many people in Canada are atheists/agnostics though.Even a country full of deists would be better, but meh, one step at a time.

Actually, I'm mildly glad that certain people believe in 'god'.
Apparently, for some people, that's the only thing that stops them from going on a murderous rampage.
Now, I don't have to believe in a god or gods to restrain myself. Basic human dignity keeps me from acting on impulses (not that I have the impulse to kill or maim anyone often).
Curiously, I am an atheist and my partner is a christian, and believe it or not, but we're both good people who care about others. Funny that, isn't it?
@Necronomikron
"Actually, I'm mildly glad that certain people believe in 'god'.

Thank you for illustrating my point.
I don't really care whether or not you believe in gods. I only care about the way you treat others (and by extension the government). Most religious people don't have problems getting along with others, but the vocal minority is doing an excellent job of making you all look bad, so I'd get to denouncing them right away if I were you. (This is me being charitable and assuming you aren't one of those assholes in the first place.)
Aside from the hours of entertainment that believers in god provide, I am not glad at all that there are fundie dimwits out there stealing my oxygen. These so called "good" people would be the same ones who want to nuke, murder, or expel anybody whose views conflict with their own.
Oh yes, I'm really glad we have those, especially when a lunatic of similar ilk can and has at times become President of the USA. Now we have the likes of Santorum gunning for the keys to the nuclear arsenal - that is really encouraging. Even for those of us who live on the opposite side of the planet.
Please hurry and get Ruptured already, so the rest of us can make this world a better place.
I have said that it would be a good and wonderful thing if the New Testament were true. Digging deeper into it, that's like wishing the late, great Christopher Hitchens' Cosmic Dictatorship were factual.
I can't speak for all atheists, but a universe that gave a fuck would be nice.
" Christians, for the most part, are good people who care about others and make this planet a better place to live by balancing out people who do not do these kinds of things."
The Bush regime killed a million people on false pretences, tortured 13 year olds, imprisoned people without charges or trial, and tapped everyones phone without a warrent. The Bush regime was heavily influenced by christians. Funny how you can't "draw a correlation between the two! "
Arctic Knight: aw, be fair. the crusades were a fun time when the righteous christians beat up those heaten muslims. never mind that those christians were catholics and that they looted constantinople( orthodox christianity's capital) before attacking the islamic empire (at the time of the first crusade, the world's leading repository of knowledge)
Well, they also use God as an excuse, if not to kill each other, at least to bother us at 6 in the morning with their proselytising. You should also bear that in mind.
I'm kind of torn. I'm glad the worst of the population has something to keep them from going on a rampage, even if it is just some sky fairy with a terrible temper and an ego problem. On the other hand, without the smokescreen of god, it'd be easier to weed out the lunatics who are far more dangerous to society than a person whose only offense is growing pot in their backyard.
"Their answer was that they know that Christians, for the most part, are good people who care about others and make this planet a better place to live by balancing out people who do not do these kinds of things."
Jessica fucking Ahlquist... there is a complete and utter lack of any christian caring about her and stopping all the other christians from trying to make her life (and the life of her family) an absolute fucking nightmare...
Do not ever dare claim that christians make things better when this kind of shit is unopposed by you lot!
(emph-ass-is added):

Yes indeed. What a shame...!
What a shame they can't draw a correlation between the two!
There is no correlation. There are good Christians and good atheists. There are also Christians and atheists who are pricks. In fact, there's no good correlation between being religious and anything good or bad. Religious people don't get less cancer, get killed less by tornadoes, make more money, stay out of jail, get divorced less or even find their car keys more easily. No one can point to one definitive thing that shows God gives one whit about whether you believe in Him or not, whether you pray or not, or even if you're a pedophile or not.
@ Dr. Razark
People have said this, yes. But his reasoning is what we're making fun of, because none of us have ever heard an atheist or agnostic use it.
Other people have said as much in comments here. LRN2READ kthxbai.
How many times have I heard christians say things like "If there's no god, what's to stop me from slitting your throat and raping your mother?" And you wonder why we might say such a "curious thing"? You people are selfish, unstable, irresponsible pricks who have no idea how the universe works, so on a certain level, you sheep being under the thumb of religion is a good thing.
“ I once read where atheists obviously don't believe in God, however...they are glad that there are people on this Earth that do.”
No, we’re not.
I mean, if you were live-and-let-live people, maybe it wouldn’ tbe bad, but you’re not. So many efforts to force us to live by your beliefs.
“Why would they say such a curious thing.."
They didn’t. Some lying shill like Comfort or Strobel said it.
“Their answer was that they know that Christians, for the most part, are good people who care about others and make this planet a better place to live by balancing out people who do not do these kinds of things.”
Christains voted for Trump. Because God.
Christains fought pandemic efforts. Because God.
Christains fight the very existence of Climate Change. Because God.
"What a shame they can't draw a correlation between the two!”
What a shame believers are so VERY gullible.
Confused?
