“I just got in an eMail - for the umpteenth time - a thing about "lessons for 2008" from the Dali Lama that's "pertinent whatever your religious beliefs."”
Yeah, I don’t get those.
If you get that many, I have to assume you’re doing something that makes people think you want them? Like, maybe you forward every single email that says to forward it so some orphan in the midwest gets enough prayers to attend college, or send valentines to a cancer patient in Boston?
I do not, so i don’t get those sort of mails.
“The advice may be good, but frankly, as a Christian, I don't give a darn what he has to say, nor do I wish to promote his beliefs in any way.”
Dude, Buddhism is a philosophy, not a religion. That’s why they say ‘pertinent whatever your religious beliefs.’ It’s not to trap you.
There ARE people who are Christains and also practice Buddhism. One priest says that it makes him a better Christain.
You could stand to learn about the world around you before you reject it.
“Needless to say, I deleted it without reading it, and certainly did not "read quietly then send it along on its journey, and within 96 hours something amazing will happen." [angry smiley]”
Well, it’s good that you spiked it.
Too bad you didn’t read it at all… Might have helped you.
“Just the very thought that someone who purports to be a Christian would even send me something to affect my "karma" annoys the heck out of me.”
Yes, well, you’re a know-nothing idiot. People trying to help you want to expand your horizons WITHOUT challenging your faith.
“I've asked people over and over to NOT send me this junk.”
Which probably shows them that you really NEED this ‘junk.’
“ I'm trying to compose a good, Scripture-laded response to send to them and hopefully make them realize that believing in and promoting this garbage is witchcraft.”
No. It’s really not. PLEASE don’t be so stupid and arrogant, you’ll only need more Buddhism in your life.
“What would each of you respond?”
I would suggest that you learn enough about Buddhism to actually see if anything Jesus taught agrees with it. And send those scriptures out.
