By the way, if there is no GOd...where does love come from? Obviously an atheist is partial to evolution, so did LOVE evolve? What about art, did that evolve too? Am I to believe that a mother's protective instinct for her young just evolved? Oh,,,,and one of the best. Why do I laugh hysterically at something funny? Surely that's a gift!!!

Also, if humor and other emotions were gifts from God, how come some people with Schizophrenia often get emotions backwards? I.e. crying at a joke, laughing hyristically at a funeral.
>>Am I to believe that a mother's protective instinct for her young just evolved?<<
Well, considering that protecting ones youth would help them survive, and in the big picture, help the species survive, so it IS just an extension of natural selection. I suppose it is a gift, a gift of nature and evolution.

Sorry, but I felt obligated to put this out there. . . Evolution is about survival of the individual, not the species.
However, if you do the studies, you'll find that the "maternal instinct" often appears among kin, which makes sense in the context of kin selection theory.
If you need me to explain the biological advantage to love, art or laughing, I could do that relatively easily.
So, do people with a poor sense of humor, or simply unfunny people, not know God? Is it proof that people who don't know how to make a good joke are unGodly? Because that would seriously throw some doubt on my perception of the faith of many-a-Fundie.
Also, if there is no GOD... where does bollocks like this come from? Obviously an atheist is partial to evolution, so did idiocy evolve? What about bullshit, did that evolve too?
Really, stupidity MUST be a gift. If neo-Darwinism was true, wouldn't all the fundamentalists be extinct?
Love evolved as a mental conditioning to protect a mate, so as to defend the offspring, just as maternal love did. As for laughter, it's a conditioned response to tell the rest of the clan that everything is okay, and there's no need to be alarmed...if memory serves, anyways.
"Am I to believe that a mother's protective instinct for her young just evolved?"
Actually yes, that's a trait that lends directly to the survivability of a species, so congradulations- you know fuck about evolution.
Love is a chemical reaction occurring in the brain that evolved in order to stabilize sexual partnerships in order for the child to survive more often.
Art is a display of various skills that are related to those used in survival. It is primarily used to attract mates through showy displays.
Laughter is an innate recognition of information that could be used to increase chances of survival.
And yes, all of them are evolved traits.
Franklin, Franklin, Franklin. Yes, it all evolved. Motherhood is very survival-conducive, so a gene that makes a mother more attentive is going to propagate more than one that causes the mother to up and leave after laying eggs. Laughing? Who knows. Maybe, from an evolutionary standpoint, happy beings are more likely to engage their offspring?
"where does love come from"
A biological need to reproduce and continuate the species.
"so did LOVE evolve?"
Yes, because if you have no motivation to mate, you will die out. Those who are motivated to mate will survive, so natural selection highly favors love.
"What about art, did that evolve too?"
Yeah, having a way to record history and express your thoughts was very valuable to early humans and modern humans.
"Am I to believe that a mother's protective instinct for her young just evolved?"
Well, any mothers who don't have that and let their children die will almost certainly not be able to pass it on!
"Why do I laugh hysterically at something funny?"
Because absurdity is a necessary escape from reality for humans, whose superior intelligence would otherwise make them suicidal.
"if there is no GOd...where does love come from?"
Simple. Love, like all other feelings, is merely chemicals in your brain. Actually a list of them that I'm too lazy to recall. No imaginary friends needed.
" Am I to believe that a mother's protective instinct for her young just evolved?"
Actually, yes, you are to believe that.
"Why do I laugh hysterically at something funny? Surely that's a gift!!!"
Nope, just more chemicals in the brain. What you said is a bit like saying "I just injected heroin, I'm sure the good feeling is coming from god, because this feeling was not there before"
"By the way, if there is no GOd...where does love come from?"

...and for the Bronies out there:

Rainbow Dash, Applejack and Pinkie Pie are the source of all Love.

“By the way, if there is no GOd...where does love come from?”
Humans that bonded survived better than loners. Lpve is an acquired chemical response.
"Obviously an atheist is partial to evolution,"
Not all of them.
“so did LOVE evolve?”
Yes.
“What about art, did that evolve too?”
yes.
“Am I to believe that a mother's protective instinct for her young just evolved?”
Not all animals have that. So, yes, it’s part of our evolution.
"Oh,,,,and one of the best. Why do I laugh hysterically at something funny? Surely that's a gift!!!”
Define funny, then. G’head.
Humor is an interrupted defense mechanism. We survive a threat, then a lot of pressure is released in a response to comedy. I am convinced that the first ‘joke’ was along the lines of: Two ape creatures climbing a tree to escape a predator. One makes it to safety, one falls and is devoured. The survivor looks down and dismisses the dead ape as ‘Butterfingers!”
It’s a way of resetting from the ‘Fight Or Flight’ relfex.
Confused?
