Lol, if we were Roman pagans, our candidates would have served in the military, and would regard abortion as malevolent sorcery. Contemporary America is more degenerate than the Roman republic and even much of the empire. Sad, but true.

If only, if only! But alas, you're not a Roman pagan, you're a degenerate Bible Godist. Drool on, buddy!
The ancient Romans knew, like most other civilizations, that it's more important to take care of those who already exist, than to bring new people into the world that you can't take care of. Abortions have always been around, it wasn't until they could be done safely in hospitals that fundies started hating them.
I didn't know that the US had an emperor...
"Abortifacients are mentioned in more or less detail in the surviving works of Aetius, Aristotle, Caelius Aurelianus, Celsus, Dioscorides, Galen, Hippocrates (that is, the Hippocratic Corpus), Mustio (orMoschion), Oribasius, Paulus Aegineta, Pliny, S. Placitus Payriensis, Ps. Apuleius Platonicus, Soranus, Theodorus Priscianus. With the exception of Celsus, Mustio, and Theodorus Priscianus, the same authors also discuss contraceptives." - Contraception and Abortion in the Greco-Roman World, Vesalius, I, 2, 77 - 87,1995 Plinio Prioreschi
5-minute Google search proves you don't know what you're talking about, Freeper.
Of all of our recent presidents, only Clinton avoided serving in the Vietnam War, to which he was strongly opposed, by a variety of strategies. All of the other presidents since F.D.R. have served in some capacity or another. Truman and Eisenhower were actually career military officers. JFK was a decorated hero. Johnson won the Silver Star and Ford the Bronze Star. Reagan was disqualified from overseas duty due to his eyesight, but served state-side during WW2. G.W. Bush is often accused of having wangled a domestic reserve job, but he did actually serve. Obama grew up in the all-volunteer era, as will most of his successors.
The Romans occasionally practiced infanticide, so I doubt your statement about their opposition to abortion has any basis.
What are you talking about, you moron?
Abortion in the Republic and Empire was perfectly legal and was usually carried out by herbs or other medicines. Abortion was not specifically banned until Christianity became the state religion of the Empire.
@ all the lion commenters
Actually, the stories of early Christian persecution and martyrdom may well be false.

"I didn't know that the US had an emperor..."
You do now.
You're welcome.

If the Roman Empire hadn't become Christian...:
I've always been of the opinion that, if things turned out that way, the ship used by Christopher Columbus in the late 15th century to seek out new lands, instead of being named the Santa Maria , would have borne a different name, say...

...Apollo XI.
I'm sorry Anon-e-moose, but that demotivator is wrong. There actually was quite a bit of technological progress during the "dark" ages. And I mean FROM the technology that the romans had. It just was slower, and with the europe-wide trade networks broken, had a harder time propagating.
Plus the dark ages were only a European thing, the middle east and China were progressing just fine.
And it's just silly to blame Christianity alone for the dark ages, the roman empire had converted to Christianity long before they started. It may have played a role, but saying we would have space colonies now without Christianity is a huge oversimplification.

"Whine all you want, but the 1950's are never coming back."
It's not just that they're never coming back. The OP's vision of the 1950s never existed at all.
Oh, and about those guys on page one talking about the demotivational, Hypatia. Just, Hypatia.
Plus, I already knew about Emperor Norton. He was cool.
Hail Eris.
Confused?
