[In response to a poster who stated that he was listed as an organ donor on his license...]
It indirectly justifies abortion.
Organ donation has also been linked to the murder of innocents. It happens in China all the time—so I have heard. Well I guess that is not considered donation, but it is a form of harvesting organs.

Why is it that everything "happens in China all the time"; from the harvesting of body parts, killing of babies, persecution of christians, etc.? Just once I would like to see some proof.
WTF? How does being an organ donor in a western country justify abortion? They are not related, except in the most vague grammatical sense.
"harvesting of body parts, killing of babies, persecution of christians, etc"
On the other hand, harvesting organs in China is NOT imaginary. Unless you think the cruel oppression of women in Saudi Arabia is also 'wild stories'. I am no fan of fundies. But this doesn't even SCRATCH THE SURFACE of what goes on in China. At least in India, they permit a black market in organs (i.e. I am starving to death so I will sell one of my kidneys). In China the government makes the profit off this sick trade. Our government doesn't dwell on what goes on in Saudi Arabia or China because they are trading partners. That's why China can shoot down a US plane flying in international airspace with no real repercussions (give us our plane back in pieces and it's back to business as usual), and Saudi Arabia can send a team of hijackers to North America to cause 9/11, and nothing changes anyways (lesse, most of the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, as was their leader, so let's attack Iraq, who hated Bin Laden).
Ooops. Off topic. Bash them fundies!
Eh...I'm not an organ donor because I want to receive good care in the ER and feel as though doctors would be less likely to want to save my life if they get something out of my death. Also, I just don't particularly feel obligated to help strangers that way. Of course, since I'm a diabetic, they may not even want my organs.
But it has no bearing on abortion, no matter how you look at it.
What?
There was legal organ 'donation' from executed inmates in China, but... What the hell does that have to do with abortion?
This person better be against capital punishment...
Of course, that it may save lives hasn't got in your mind. And well, are you saying in a not so subtle manner that embryos are not human?. Or are you saying something as stupid as not differentiating between voluntary donation and involuntary(what on earth do you hear)?. Next time you equate paid labor with slavery, let us know.
Abortion: terminating a pregnancy.
Organ donation: consent to giving up your organs in the case of your death to benefit others.
No, not linked. Try again.
I'm not an organ donor because I want to receive good care in the ER and feel as though doctors would be less likely to want to save my life if they get something out of my death.
Paranoid much? That's not how it works. Idiot.
"Eh...I'm not an organ donor because I want to receive good care in the ER and feel as though doctors would be less likely to want to save my life if they get something out of my death."
That's a little paranoid!
"Also, I just don't particularly feel obligated to help strangers that way"
That's your choice. Remember it.
A lot of things happen in China that make what you describe look rather mild by comparison.
Illuminatalie: Yeah, just like what you described. That`s a prime example.
"It happens all the time, in China... so I have heard."
Fundie Truth.... I heard from a friend, who heard it from a friend, who heard it from a friend, so it must be TRUE!
I'm not normally one to wish harm or misfortune on others, but maybe popcornboy will find himself in need of a transplanted organ at some point in his life.
Let's hope he has the courage of his convictions then , eh?
honestly, I see nothing wrong with organ donation. Canadian medicare cards have real issues with keeping the signature legible, if even present, however (even the permanent crap I use on stainless seems to has an easy time smudging off that thing), but I know my friends/family would have no qualms about saying "yeah, he'll donate. he's dead, he won't care".
Should probably be an opt-out, I figure. You're dead, and someone else can put it to better use. Better opt-out in this case than "well we can't be sure, there's no signature on the card"
About the chinese baby killing: it is true that china does late term abortion (baby killings as far as I am concerned, I mean, birth then death in the same ten seconds?) as a part of the one child per family policy. Someimes. Rarely. Very.
"My great-grandmother used to say that I shouldn't give plasma or donate organs, because if the person I give them to sins, then the sin is counted on my account."
Now THAT makes more sense.
When I die, whatever happens to me after, I doubt seriously that I'm going to need any of my original parts. Assuming there's anything usable when I'm done with it, you can part my ass out like an old car.
Organ donation indirectly justifies abortion. Oh, you mean, really, really, really indirectly.
"Of course, since I'm a diabetic, they may not even want my organs."
You may have a point there. Sorry what I said about your not wanting to donate. I thought, maybe there ARE places in the world where that sort of thing (killing or neglecting patients to get their their organs) could happen, and what seemed like paranoia to me could be actually justified.
You know the old saying. "What happens in China stays in China."
...or maybe I'm thinking of something different. In any case, adults donating organs have nothing to do with whatever organ-related atrocity that other people are committing.
Confused?
