My brother came home talking about dinosaurs and how they evolved here over 63 million years ago. We're Christian, but whether we're Christian or not, the school should not be instilling THEIR beliefs into impressionable kids like my brother. Their family/parents are the ones to instill - they can take it or leave it... but the school should not be! What should I tell me brother? My mom takes this seriously too, but she's not around and I want to give my brother an immediate and easy-to-understand response.
Thank you!

You should tell them that what he learned at school is correct.
Perhaps you should've gone to public school, as well. Maybe you can have your brother teach you about reality.
Actually, it was about 150 million to 65 million years ago.
63 million years ago is the wrong figure.
Y'could, maybe, I dunno, tell him that.
Telling kids facts =/= "instilling THEIR beliefs into impressionable kids".
Seriously, you having a meltdown because your brother was taught about evolution, which, outside of the United States of Jesusland, is a well-supported and accepted explanation of species variation. Take a chill pill.
It is not your place to tell your brother anything. If your mother, your brothers parent, has something to say it is up to her. Not you, a gung ho, over zealous teenager.
If you absolutely must say something, tell him that you're jealous he is getting a real education in the real world.
Well, hopefully your brother is like all other brothers and will never listen to his siblings anyway (I didn't), in which case, you can say whatever you want.
Well since he's the male child, you have absolutely no right in questioning what he says or correcting him, ever. Now if your father has an issue with your brother, he should take him to the front steps of the church and stone him to death.
It's the biblical way.
you should tell him that he goes to school to learn things, like about when dinosaurs were dominant on this planet several million years ago. Then you should tell him that if something he learns at school contradicts the trite that your pastor or parents said it is immensely more likely that what he learned at school is correct and your parents and pastor are fucking retarded.
Oh noes! Not teh edumacation!
Are you jealous, Heather, because Daddy told you that women don't need them book smarts and all you need to know is how to become a good little wife?
Facts are not beliefs. Your logic is garbage.
Facts are supported by evidence. It's why they're facts.
Beliefs are supported by unsubstantiated claims in dusty books.
You probably don't understand the difference, but it's there.
"What should I tell me brother?"
Tell him:
"Oh, sure, all the fossil evidence points to enormous reptiles that flourished on the Earth millions of years ago, but since we know the Earth is only 6000 years old that can't possibly be true! Satan planted those fossils to mess with our heads."
When he asks how he can distinguish real scientific facts from Satan-planted trickery, hit him on the head with a frying pan and pretend Satan did it.
the wonderful thing about religion is that you can make up anything, and then say that its because god is testing us...the sad thing about religion is that people actually believe this.
damn school and its schoolness. why should our children learn about science and math and english when they could be learning about the sky fairy and how he (and its always a he) created everything and is everything we need in this life....even though we wont actually meet him until the afterlife.
thank fsm im an athiest.
You better watch out. I hear the school also believes that gravity on earth accelerates at 9.8 m/s^2, and that water is composed of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen. Can't have them indoctrinating your little brother with physics or chemistry, either!
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
