“*gays in the military*”
A tradition that goes WAY back.
“If he changes the policy, we are probably going to see about 25% of the military leave as soon as they can.”
As I recall, most of the military knows they know someone who is or very likely is gay. Only a very, very few actually get upset about it.
The number of people who are going to quit is probably closer to the number of people who turned gays in for being gay in the years before the change. And not all of them. Some are too lazy to get out without their full retirement.
"Many of them will be officers and NCOs.”
People with a lot more invested in staying in than on storming out in a tantrum.
“ My husband is retired from the army, but if he were not, he would be submitting his retirement papers asap."
Doors RIGHT over there. Don’t let it hit you where, etc.
“We will certainly discourage our son from following his dad into the military.”
Cool. My son followed me and my wife into the Navy. His addition, however small, reduced the percentage of racists and homophobes in service.
“I won't go into detail here but when my husband was a commander he had to deal with several problems caused by gay soldiers. One of them involved the attempted homosexual assault of another male soldier.”
Yes, yes, sure, sure. Everyone has a ‘gay soldier’ horror story. They’re all the same and they all lack specific details like year, command, name…
Same as all the ‘women will fuck you over’ horror stories.
And the ‘coloreds will fuck you over’ horror stories.
