It should tell you something about carnists’ overall mindset that they think one of their most valid defenses against veganism is, “It’s wrong to tell people their beliefs are wrong.”
Literally, “I’m paying for torture and slaughter, but since you’re pointing that out, that makes you worse than me.”
Sometimes I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Carnist...bloodmouth...if I want to feel manly, I piss off a Tumblr Vegan. They promptly turn my dietary habits into a metal song.
I gnash the tortured flesh, silent lives Cry out in pain, stomach a graveyard of animal bones...
-metal riffing-
It doesn't make you worse than me. It makes you more annoying, though.
And it's easy to spot the vegans in the grocery line. They all look gaunt, bad-tempered, and judgmental.
Fruits & Vegetables are alive too.
Unless you're prepared to starve to death, your hypocrisy is showing, therefore the only one who is wrong is you. NEXT! .

There are legitimate reasons for veganism.
My landlady is literally allergic to meat and animal products, and eating them makes her very sick for several days.
I am a vegan because it's a fairly healthy lifestyle with low environmental impact and relatively low costs.
This guy is a vegan for his own reasons. He's also a colossal dick, which is the main problem here.
Carnists? I don't know of anyone who ONLY eat meat. Humans evolved to be omnivores.
I've never heard that defense, but I'm not vegan, so no-one has had to defend their "carnism" to me...
You eat whatever the hell you want, and I'll eat whatever I want. Deal?
No, I don't need meat with all meals. I also don't need potatoes with all meals. I don't think of a meal without meat as vegetarian, any more than I think of a meal with no potatoes in a certain way. It's all just food, hopefully good food.
Swede: "You eat whatever the hell you want, and I'll eat whatever I want. Deal?"
*Shrug* sounds good to me.
No, it's about keeping your wacko ideas to yourself. You're never, ever going to rid the world of people eating meat, so stop fighting against it. If you don't want to eat meat because you think it's wrong, then fine. But don't condemn others for enjoying a steak.
The health, environmental, animal cruelty and cost benefits of veganism make very good, logical sense.
However, breaking the eating habits of generations which are so ingrained in food culture around the world where meat, dairy, eggs or fish is so integral to our diet, it is a huge leap to make the switch.
I eat less meat than I used to. I often eat vegetarian, occasionally vegan (more by accident than design).
I certainly think reducing meat consumption would have great benefits.
As ever though, the self-righteous fundies banging the drum for veganism, calling us murderers and torturers don't help in persuading the masses to change - if anything they are likely to make me ask for extra bacon.
Sometimes I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Cry, certainly. Be sad. Be very sad.
Dead animals, mmmmmmmmmmmm
“I’m paying for torture and slaughter, but since you’re pointing that out, that makes you worse than me.”
You are aware that basically everybody who eats meat is DISGUSTED by farm conditions right?
“…they think one of their most valid defenses against veganism is, “It’s wrong to tell people their beliefs are wrong.””
I’ve never heard anyone say that to a vegan.
I’ve never heard anyone tell another ‘bloodmouth’ that ‘Hey, the best way to piss off a vegan? Tell them that telling us our beliefs are wrong is wrong!!”
SO i doubt that it’s THE most valid defense.
I don’t see that it’s in the top twenty.
I am reminded of the creationist who said, within two posts:
1) You have to respect other people’s religion
2) evolution is a religion
3) evolution is stupid
And i see vegans showing their respect for all living things by trying to make meat eaters throw up.
Confused?
