I'm about to re-write my Will and would like to have a Rapture Clause in it to ensure that family members can get access to my assets, but I wonder how much legal standing that will have in reality. They wouldn't think to look for my Will in that situation, anyway, since Rapture Clauses aren't exactly a standard inclusion! I'm sure the Solicitor would think I was totally [crazy smiley face]!!

This is the type of fundie gold I just love. These adults think that any minute they'll be swept into the clouds on a chariot made of candy canes. I say, if fundies weren't so harmful to the actual world, they'd be all right with me.

Too true, if by "solicitor", you mean "everybody"

None I would guess. It would be like trying to have a clause in your house insurance in case Godzilla steps on it.

I wonder why that is?

Maybe he'd be smart and slip you a consent form for self committal into the nearest psych ward.
Old Viking:
For the uninitiated, what does a Rapture Clause consist of?
Rapture Clause is the anthropomorphic personification of the Christian desire for the Rapture, and will deliver gifts to a sock hanging from your cross at home, every time an angels blows a trumper.
What's in the will, a tennis ball tube full of Chick tracts and a gold leaf bible? Some of these guys think they're going to ascend physically to heaven, clothing and all - so with no body, wait 7 years to assume death. Otherwise, just another clunk. I like how even with their 144,000 from all time, past, present and future that qualify - THEY are among the chosen. And millions of them think this.
Where did Syd hear the R word?
[ but I wonder how much legal standing that will have in reality.]
Save the money, give me all your shit now, and you can just wait, naked, to be raptured!
Well I think the whole point in a will is that you get to distribute your stuff however you want, provided that it's legal, so I can't see how a rapture clause would not be legally valid in a will. You're still insane though.
On second thought, I should put a zombie apocalypse clause in my will.
Actually Syd might have a point. If you were to write a bat-shit insane will saying "if the rapture happens I want X done, but if I'm stepped on by Godzilla (TY Horsefeathers) I want Y done", couldn't your little additions be used to show you were not of sound mind when your will was read?
Last Will and Testament of Sydney Spider
In the event of my death, everything goes to my family.
RAPTURE CLAUSE:
In the event of the Rapture I leave everything to the Israeli Defense Fund, for use against the Antichrist. If I provide for family members, who are left behind, I might lose my seat on the Rapture Bus.

Good point. It would make things easier for someone to contest the will with the batshit crazy clauses in there.
Hey fundies. Sorry to break it to ya, but the Rapture happened already. Yeah, nobody was worthy. Also, the trumpets were drowned out by traffic.
I'm thinking a 'Rapture Clause' in a Will might be grounds for a 'non compos mentis' claim, at least under UK law.
From Wikipedia (I know, I know):
The term non compos mentis comes from Latin, non meaning "not," compos meaning "in control," and mentis, genitive singular of mens, mind, and means not having a sound mind; not sane...In English law, the rule of non compos mentis was most commonly used when the defendant invoked religious or magical explanations for behaviour; a concept which encountered difficulties when exported to the colonies, where such motivations were commonplace.
"[crazy smiley face]" is right! Besides, what makes this creep think that she will be Raptured over her family members, anyway? Honestly, the gall of these people!
No lawyer worth his salt would write such a clause into a will. It could delay the will from going into probate by calling your testamentary capacity into question, and cause both the judge and your family members to consider that you were suffering from an insane delusion .
Maybe the law is different in Australia, but since it's a common law country, I doubt it's that much different.
Even if the rapture occurred, everyone from rapture ready (and all born-agains) is so wicked that they would be left behind.
How do I know this?
I read rr!
Happy to say I will never need that clause in my will. I don't see any reason not to allow it though. Seems like it would be equally applicable in any situation of unexplained disappearance (rapture, alien abduction, pissing off the mafia, etc.)
Assuming Syd's enrapturing (and that's a huge assumption), he'd probably be presumed dead and his estate entrusted to his named beneficiaries long before it really became relevant. Right?
It's like this guy's saying he wants to advertise how deeply he believes in doomsday.
You want a rapture clause in your will? The document that is irrelevant until you die and a probate case is filed in court along with a death certificate? How do you think having a rapture clause in that document will make it apply to a situation other than death?
If you really think the rapture is right around the corner you should give family members access to your assets now by naming them joint owners on everything.
I think it would be pretty funny to go to some of these RR people's houses in the middle of the night with some floodlights, a trumpet, and a megaphone and all at once shine the floodlights in their bedroom window, sound the trumpet, and shout "RAAAAAAAPTUUUUUUUUURE!" into the megaphone. And then just leave. Bet that would trip them out.
An adult who believes in a Rapture Clause is as sane as one who believes in Santa Claus. As others have said, It sounds like Mr Spider's judgement will easily be questioned, and his heirs could easily contest the will in probate if they don't "get theirs." And who does he name as an executor? A sinner who will be left behind after the Rapture that he's still willing to trust with his estate? The whole thing just gets more and more insane.
She wants to leave her assets to her family members in case she gets Raptured? Guess she's pretty much assured her *family* won't get raptured with her, huh?
And that doesn't seem to bother her much ...
I'm guessing POE.

Tut tut, Jez-sis! Didn't you know that Jesus was a registered Republican, and believed that nothing was more sacred than the right to private ownership of property? (Free of taxation, I might add?)
Confused?
