Reviews of various things - such as 'Blind Bag' figurines, obscure comestibles, games & gaming systems (usually of the handheld type; his particular obsession), including Games You Probably Wish You'd Never Heard Of, food & drink that are decades (and in one case, over a century!) out of date, Lootcrates (and other forms of monthly merchandise boxes), and of course what he's famous for: Poundland Tat - by Dr. Stuart Ashen.
And it was in Poundland today, that while I spotted one or two pieces of Tat that I could have bought & sent to him for reviewing on the Brown Sofa - but as he's now got a huge backlog of items for that purpose, he's closed his P.O. Box for an indeterminate time - I saw something that would be great to give to my best friend (to add to his collection) when I visit him in a couple of months time: a DVD of the Don Bluth animated Sci-Fi film "Titan AE".
As this was directed by a LDSer, and the underlying theme was the remnants of humanity trying to find a new home - which mirrors Brigham Young & his followers - which was (nick)named 'Planet Bob' ('Kolob'?!), that heretical philosophy should shock you.
Despite my seeing those parallels, I wasn't, though: merely a cracking Sci-Fi yarn by the Bluthmeister (and he a LDSer? He worked - on "An American Tail" - with Steven Spielberg: Jewish. Did he care...?!).
I know my best friend will be anything but shocked when he receives that DVD. And he's a long-time C-of-E Christian.
...oh, and one last thing: as you watch the myriad videos on Ashens' YouTube channel, prepare to be very shocked - as well as Nought-to-Three, Sad Onions - to find out how saturated in Psychology (that's what Stuart got his Ph.D in) and Cynicism it is! With uses of Precision F-Bombs, THE GOOSE!, and the Sound Effects Machine (when he can find it!) , you'll wish you were a recipient of The Blowtorch. I do recommend "Ashens and the Quest for the GameChild" to anyone. It is An Excellent Film. [/Chef Excellence]
