[previous poster said: There is no theory of intelligent design]
It's the only competition materialism has left. It's the last ditch. It's about stopping materialism or, at least, slowing it down a bit. The march of the Materialist Party with stock market prices for guidance.
Obviously money talks. Bob Dylan says it swears. Andy Warhol said it's the only art left.
Science is jealous because it has delivered wonderful stuff and it can't get its hands on power. It still has to lobby instead of being lobbied. Anti-ID, and anti-Creationism is still working overtime, is a recruiting tool for the Materialist Party and its Commissars.
It can't campaign like a proper party because all its spokespersons are goofballs. Calamity Jane said that the scientists she knew were nerds and we don't want nerds in No 10 or The Oval Office. (No tasteless jokes please.)
Think of the jokes about Pidcock and Dawkins.
I think Materialism is beginning to flounder under the law of diminishing returns. Doesn't all progress?

Maybe I'm dense, but I see no relationship between materialism and whether creationism, ID, or evolution are true or false. But ID'ers are not ones to be saying that all of the "spokespersons" for science are goofballs.
If they really are recruiting, can I be a commissar? I've always wanted to yell 'Fear me, but follow!' to my pack of Imperial Guardsmen.
As for you spendius, keep dreaming.
It must be really fun to listen to yourself talk. I can almost see your eyebrows raising in condescending mock-enlightenment, the facial- and deltoid-muscle movements associated with smug assurance of superiority having long since become reflex. All you need is something actually intelligent to say, and Bro. Randy can start quoting you.
we don't want nerds in No 10 or The Oval Office
Nothing wrong with nerds when it comes to achieving things - they tend to get down to work much more than jocks. Hell, pretty much the definition of a nerd is that they put their work before almost anything else.
This post speaks volumes about the voting public - in the words of Pratchett, not only are they not very clever but they are also deeply distrustful of cleverness.
I think a "nerd" in the White House would be great. For once we would have someone who doesn't think with his testicles and go for the interns or the Iraqis. (Frankly, of the two, I'd rather the President screw the interns than the whole friggin' country...) For once we would have someone in power with enough knowledge of science and technology to actually make reasonable policy. (Stem cells anyone? The Internet is a seris of tubes...?)

What the heck are you talking about? Are you for this or against it?
"Obviously money talks. Bob Dylan says it swears. Andy Warhol said it's the only art left."
OK. So what?
"Science is jealous because it has delivered wonderful stuff and it can't get its hands on power."
Science and scientist have delivered wonderful discoveries, but they generally aren't interested in power.
"It still has to lobby instead of being lobbied."
Yeah, that's not a good thing, spendy. That fact that so many people world-wide are so ignorant is to the detriment of our societies.
"Anti-ID, and anti-Creationism is still working overtime, is a recruiting tool for the Materialist Party and its Commissars."
There is no "Materialist Party."
ID and creationism are based on ancient fairy tales, not science. They are hogwash.
"It can't campaign like a proper party because all its spokespersons are goofballs."
It can't campaign like a proper party because it is not a party.
Your position is that almost all credible scientists in the world are "goofballs?"
"Calamity Jane said that the scientists she knew were nerds and we don't want nerds in No 10 or The Oval Office. (No tasteless jokes please.)"
No, I would be happy to have "nerds" in both #10 and the oval office, regardless of what CJ may or may not have said. Scientists tend to be intelligent and guided by logic, just the kind of person I would like to have in charge.
"Think of the jokes about Pidcock and Dawkins."
Not a one comes to mind.
"I think Materialism is beginning to flounder under the law of diminishing returns. Doesn't all progress?"
The word you were looking for is "founder," not "flounder." Go look it up, Dumdum.
What diminishing returns? Paying attention to the real world is yielding diminishing returns? Are you really saying ID/creationism has produced some great returns... or anything at all?
No, all progress does not founder.
Intelligent design is the invention of Christian creationists, it's somewhat accepted by other religions as it ID doesn't specify the Christian God. However it's not a theory as it contains no evidence, no facts and is entirely religious.
Religions are in no way not materialistic, they all demand or plead for money and power, every last one. Many are even damn showy about it building massive monuments with great spires or towers that dominate many landscapes. The Cathedreals of the world shame the largest castles of royalty or mansion of the uber-rich.
The only competition against materialism my ass, religion almost invented it, certainly major practicioners of it.
Confused?
