In our comings and goings, we all run across people who are dead-set on believing that we Christians are involved in a psychological delusion, that the Bible is full of contradictions and fallacies, and that Jesus was nothing more than a mythological character.

The fact that these people are wrong (and spiritually dead) is a foregone conclusion. But I'm curious as to what are the social and psychological factors that would lead someone to such an erroneous conclusion. Why do they think this way to begin with?

Use the rule of thumb God has given us. If it doesn't line up with scripture [Holy Bible] in context, throw it out. Man made tradition is what keeps getting people in trouble.

I agree with Falwell 1000%
Islam is a religon of terror, at least in islam ruled countries.

1) Fear of not making it into heaven; Follow these rules and _maybe_ you can enter paradice.

2) Fear of freedom of choice;

A. If you are a muslim you can't convert to anything else, under penalty of death.

B. People who are already another faith can't evangelize muslims. But they are supposed to be given "freedom" to worship by themselves. (but they can't grow because they deny any building permits.)

3) Fear of freedom of speech. You can't speak against islam and it's prophet. or they will stone you, burn your house, kill your family, and burn your church!

I'd better stop now, just thinking about this wicked religion that has decieved so many is making me mad.

Regarding the human imperfection, I can see how that would make sense, since it was written by a human, however the only other God-inspired document in the history of the world is proved to be 99.99% accurate, or so I have read through research and obviously believe by faith. I am obviously speaking of the Bible.

For example, Mormonism teaches things such as baptism of the dead, that Jesus and Satan are spirit brothers, that man can one day achieve godhood, that God has a body of flesh and bones, and that there is no salvation outside of the Mormon church. These are not only serious doctrinal aberrations, but they are so far out of line with what the Bible says, that Mormonism becomes not a Christian denomination, but a cult.

[On Mormonism]

i saw this movie last night and realized the connection and parallel it makes here. the whole gist of the movie is a computer generated actress that everyone has seen, talked to, heard of, but she didn't exist.

i am not asserting this as a substantial argument, it was a movie, but it is amazing that people can be pursuaded to believe in something when in fact it never existed.

Witnessing to Mormons is extremely difficult. I've had many opportunities online (on another message board), as well as a few opportunities face-to-face, and in all cases I've found Mormons to be extremely nice people who are wearing spiritual blinders. The cult of Mormonism is so ingrained in their thinking that the mere mention that they worship a different Jesus, different God, and that their religion is, at best, very loosely based on the Bible, just brings blank stares (in person), or quick changes of the subject (online). Mormon apologists also tend to be militant and sometimes downright sneaky in the way they present their beliefs -- everything is wrapped in scripture, but beneath the scripture is nothing but the Book of Mormon and the words of Mormon "prophets".

The big problem I have with Halloween isn't its roots (which can be traced all the way back to the Druid Festival of the Dead, circa 100 AD). The problem I have is that it makes light of things evil. Many people don't stop to think, or even realize (or want to realize) that there are such things as evil spirits and demonic forces. Halloween, in my opinion, is one of these events that, over a period of time, desensitizes people (especially children!) and makes them think that the devil is really just a little kid in a red suit, not an actual being. To a Christian, Halloween is a stupid display. To others, it can end up being spiritual desensitization. Exactly what Satan wants, eh??

Think about it. No one alive has seen George Washington, how do we know he was real and not a myth created by our ancestors? In addition we have the testimonies of the changed lives over the centuries. How many today say their life was changed by George washington?

'wishful' or 'magic thinking', which is basically about "I want it to be true and so it is". This is frequently encountered in scientists who want to prove their hypotheses; their minds interpret data in a certain way because it supports their ideas.

[When Jerry Falwell remarked that Mohammed was a terrorist, resulting in a riot]

i watched rev. falwell on 60 minutes, and had the opportunity to meet him and him he speak last week. after meeting him in person, seeing his heart, and listening to the interview, i can't help but agree with what he said. muhammad was a man of war and was willing to use violence to move his religion around the world.

the muslim community can get mad about what he said and call him names, but the reason most americans aren't responding in a voice of opposition against the reverend falwell is that they agree with him and his conclusions.

Suppose that [Joseph] Smith and the others did have a vision. Isn't Satan capable of deception? Though there were those testified to the vision and/or seeing the plates . . . if their witness disagrees with the Bible - I can not accept thier testimony as valid regardless of their sincerity.

It really doesn't matter where halloween comes from whether celtic or pagan or wiccan origin. What matters is that we must not celebrate it because of its dark past as well as its dark present. I know that some Christians think it's harmless because all you do is dress up in creative costumes, go trick or treating etc... but remember the satanists claim this is their "holy" day.

[On the credibility of Mormon miracle eyewitnesses] two men could say they went fishing and caught a 20 pound fish and that they ate it. When in fact, they may not have caught a fish at all. Just because these two men give testimony to these events does not make it truth. I know what we are talking about is of more significance than fishing, but the principle and philosophy still apply.

Well here is one. As you know, animals produce after their kind. Evolution said that they produced other kinds. But we have never seen that. We see what God said in Genesis that animals bring forth after their kind. There is sorts of birds and they probably came from a commen ancestor, yeah and it was a BIRD.

yeah, personally I don't like hard rock, but I don't think the beat in itself is inherently evil or anything, although I heard stories how the beat in rock music is scarily similar to the beat that Satan worshipers used.
