“When I was a kid and bought the cellophane bag of multicolor plastic "dinosaurs", it seemed that there was everything in there.”
Okay. And the bag of army soldiers had a sniper, machine gunner, spotter, officer, medic… Toy sets d o that.
"The scientists want to categorize everything, and that is fine: however, if I had one chasing me, I would not be trying to figure out specifics in Latin.”
So, what’’s your point? You played with dinosaurs but can’t tell a brontosaurus from an apatosaurus?
Probably can’t tell an M60 from an M14 in the other set, then.
"It would be TERRIBLE whether flying or walking fast. Dinosaur just fits the group,”
Probably why the bag said ‘Dinosaurs,’ on it. But not why the last set i bought had the names on the tails. So you could say you had the Allosaurus fighting the Triceratops…
And you could say, “MOOOOOOOM! It’s EDUCATIONAL!”
And ignore her saying, “You’re FIFTY FIVE! You already KNOW this!”
"besides they didn't get that name until more modern times.”
True, not a lot of paleontology while we lived in the trees…
“I'm sure that dragon would be just as descriptive.”
‘Spaceship’ is descriptive, but not terribly useful in classifying dinosaurs.
