NO FREAKING WAY.
Let the ‘reparations’ come from the:
AFRICAN, DUTCH, SPANISH,(etc)... SLAVE TRADERS!!!
We AMERICANS fought and gave our blood to END slavery.

But you Americans, sorry, I meant to write AMERICANS, also fought and gave your blood to keep slavery.
The Dutch slave traders went to the Caribbean and Suriname; the Spanish ones to the Spanish colonies of Central and South America. Dutch responsibility in the US ends with the loss of New Amsterdam and Spanish responsibility with the loss of Florida and Mexico. The Africans only sold in Africa; it was the choice of white people to buy and ship them to America. And if Americans didn't want slaves, the United States could always have liberated them in 1776. How about the American slave traders who acted legally until 1808, and the American smugglers who traded thereafter? And the states that maintained the Peculiar Institution with their blood and the blood of other Americans? If you want to limit American responsibility for reparations, I'm happy for the payments to come just from the old Confederacy.
The original article is excellent, though. This comment cited here is, errrm, questionable, but I did learn a few things in the original article. Even if I don't agree with everything.
Anyways, that guy wants ME(french) to pay. My black colleague seating next to me has the same responsabilites than me, and the same income level. I never enslaved anyone. I'm not very convinced I shall pay. Not at all.
As an American I just have to say that this man is a MURICAN and does not in any way represent us. That said, the sins of the father are not the sins of the son and you can't blame anyone alive today for historical institutionalized slavery. One also cannot forget the atrocities of history and forget the backwards thinking that allowed things like slavery to happen.
@Professor von SCIENCE!!!
If people are still benefiting from the suffering of slaves while the decedents of slaves are still suffering the consequences of slavery how can you oppose reparations?
@Hasan Prishtina
Yes, Africans sold only in Africa - to Europeans, and knew full well where their victims were going. Although, I don't think modern African states owe reparations to slave descendants as much as Europe and America.
Confused?
