The way girls treat their brothers can affect how their brothers will perceive masculinity, how they will view their wives, how they will treat their children, and what kind of stand they will take in our culture. In a time when families are fragmented and dysfunctional and pop culture is at war with manliness, there are growing numbers of daughters who are taking a stand to encourage their brothers to become men.
The young women interviewed in “The Return of the Daughters” reveal how they went from merely “tolerating” their brothers to developing dynamic, mutually edifying, best-friend relationships with their brothers. Their brothers give testimony to how their sisters have helped strengthen and inspire them to biblical manhood.

I beg to differ. This is VERY fundie. This crap comes from a site dedicated to promoting a Biblical ideal of womanly behavior. It's misogynist tripe that tries to talk psychology, but completely and utterly fails to understand it. It relies on a traditionalist, Biblical ideal of what boys and girls "should" be and a completely nonsensical explanation of how to make it happen.
It's fundie.
I used to beat my brother up when we played Power Rangers. Bless him, he always cried when I'd hit or kick him, but he'd always say he wanted to play with me.
He's someone I'm very close to and hope to continue with that, but even when I was beating him up, I knew that he was a great brother. I never encouraged him to be one way or another. From an emotional perspective, he may be the "feminine" one, although depression changed that for me. He takes after my mother much more than I do. And yet he's undeniably straight, and what I would call masculine.
What on earth is your point?
...I sense faint undertones of psuedo-incest. My brain is icked out, now.
But "biblical manhood" really is -very- fuuny XD.
Make up your mind, babes. Are women wimps who should be the doormat of the males in their lives or men are wimps who have to be treated as genius nonetheless?. And which attack in masculinity are you speaking about?, that women are no longer second class citizens?
Those who argue that this isn't fundie enough:
Believe me, if you took a look at the rest of the site, you'd see how incredibly scary and over-the-top fundie these people are. The stuff coming from Vision Forum, Ladies Against Feminism, Visionary Daughters, etc. is some of the most frightening propaganda I've seen in a long while. The patriarchy movement within extreme conservative circles scares the shit out of me.
These girls are less harmful than other fundies but, honestly, their ideas don't make sense. One, are you talking about an "attack" on masculinity?, since when?, since when men start to win less money than a woman for the same job?, since when men are not expected to combine work and family and been expected to give it up and choose one of the two options?, since when their sexual life is more and more scrutinised than that of women and are not ill-treated world-wide?. That's only the first part. The brother-sister bond is ridiculous. If it's the boy, according to you, the one who's suffering a crisis of masculinity, shouldn't he try to start HE HIMSELF the bond with the sister?, why has the sister to do it herself, as if he were a baby unable to make his own life?. Moreover, how is it possible, if you spend night and day imposing artificial limits for boys and girls based on social stereotypes?, the boys with the boys and girls with girls, YES OR NOT?. Finally, what if they don't have sisters?, should they borrow somebody else's sister or what?
Funny. I was taught to be a submissive doormat to all men and be a good little girl and obey my brothers at all times. Both my brothers then emotionally, mentally, physically and sexually abused me for over a decade.
Because, you know, that's what "real men" do. Especially "real men" who are taught that women are their property and they are free to do whatever the hell they want with them because it's backed up by an ancient book of fairy tales that tells men that is what real manly men do because they are god they are made in god's image.
How about leaving the parenting to THE PARENTS and stop putting responsibility for men and men's actions on women?
Kindly go give yourself a chainsaw enema.
@Jodie
I do feel for you girls raised in that Fundamentalist world where girls are always someones property.
"The way girls treat their brothers can affect how their brothers will perceive masculinity, how they will view their wives, how they will treat their children, and what kind of stand they will take in our culture."
That parts true then it goes off the rails suggesting Biblical relationships are the way to go, there's incest in your booky people.
I never had sisters close to my age (over ten years apart) or cousins we saw much of. I've had friends with sisters though and what's valuable about knowing girls from a young age is understanding girls better by association. Fundamentalism short-circuits this early by teaching that females are always second class and under male rule.
I'm sexist (I believe we all are, there's levels of it) but never considered girls to be inferior, stupider or property, I've (all of us) have known plenty of boys and men that need to be herded and controlled more then women.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
