Life devalued in steps
The "right to choose" whether a baby is born or killed could lead that devalued generation to disregard the "old" or "useless" people. (An ironic role reversal) The obvious next step is to purge "undesirables" - those who disagree with the "correct" point of view. Hello "pure race". Hello Hitler.

A clump of cells: not yet a person
The mother: a person
An aged person: a person
Do you see the distinction, here?
Damn it. Kuno beat me to it.
That argument is about as good as saying "Because we find it okay to eat meat, we will one day turn into a nation of cannibals, preying on the helpless."
What part of "already born" and "thinking, sentient human beings" don't you understand?
Not once have I ever heard any pro-choice people advocating involuntary euthanasia, but I hear this from the so-called pro-life crowd all the time. Somehow they always confuse allowing something to happen with forcing it to happen.

"Hello "pure race". Hello Hitler.
And - not taking into account Hosea 13:16 - seeing as abortion was illegal in Hitler's Third Reich (with lengthy jail sentences for the women who had such, and the doctors who performed such were executed:

...goodbye 'Pro-Lifers ' argument.
And something else to abort your devalued 'argument': 'Pro-Life ', eh? Why aren't you campaigning to have the 2nd Amendment removed from the US Constitution? Especially post-Sandy Hook. Oh 'Save the unborn child!', but once outside the womb, it's all bets off.
'Pro-Life '. 'Pro-Gun '. Prove that Hypocrisy is hardwired into the DNA of right-wingers, much?
...Not only was abortion outlawed in Nazi Germany, women were actually encouraged to produce as many offspring as possible.
Now, sure, this had little to do with children being adorable or something, and more with creating a supply of little Nazis, but still.
Hello Nurse!
Oh, wrong forum, sorry.

So, Republicans are pro-choice then?
Literally, since the time I was a little kid, which was... awhile ago....I've heard these wingnuts claim that it's only a matter of time before society starts killing off the elderly because they are too expensive. And what have I witnessed in all of that time? A massive increase in the population's life expectancy. So where are these death camps that you've claimed are inevitable? There sure seems to be a hell of a lot more older people around.
@Dionysus - Actually that wouldnt' work. Because they really don't give a flying fuck about 'the unborn' (That always sounds like a horror movie title to me.) They are only against abortion because they are anti-sex and think that pregnancy is god's punishment. The actual life involved in all of this means jackshit to them. They should change their name from pro-lifers to 'Kids are a punishment for fucking"-ers.
It's the other way around, stupid. Old and "useless" people were disregarded in the past, when we were more religious. With more human rights and more rights for women, everyone benefits, and life becomes more precious, in and of itself. We don't have 10, 14, 18 children anymore, in the hope that a few will reach adulthood, as most people do reach adulthood, which means that we can invest and engage more in each child.
You do know that Hitler hated abortions even more than you do, right? He said it was the duty of young German women to have as many Aryan babies as possible. Plus, nice Godwin.
"The "right to choose" whether a baby is born or killed could lead that devalued generation to disregard the "old" or "useless" people."
i suppose it could. but the fact that it hasn't is an important consideration to make.
A baby, by definition, is born. Before that he or she is a zygote, embryo or fetus. It's all in a book somewhere.
@Swimming With Crocoducks
Not only was it encouraged, they had a fucking award for women who produced too many children: the Maternity Cross. Also, abortion was illegal on human beings on Nazi Germany. Seeing as how ThoseWhackyNazis thought Jews were not human you can guess where this is going.
The Crimson Ghost, you beat me to it.
I wanted to say "Is this anything like Hello Kitty". Oh well...
To the OP,
Embryos =/= babies
Slippery slope argument.
Godwin!
Three strikes, yeeer out!
Coming this Fall, Hello Hitler!
Thursdays at 8 Eastern/7 Central, right here on NBC!
@Fawful: Produce eight kids or more, get Goldenes Mutterkreuz!
Perhaps it'd be worth considering to tell the fundies about that one.
"Guess who else thought women should have as many children as possible? That's right, HITLER DID."
It's rumoured he also ate sugar...
Really, you effing chimp?
Really? Where's your concern for the old people when I see vets stealing cat food for dinner? Or old couples having to go down to the local homeless shelter for one good meal a day? Or climbing inside dumpsters for food that's been thrown out? You sharing food with them? You buying a case of Gerber's for the teenage single mom who bought your BS and now must work and raise a child on pennies a day?
It really doesn't matter what you think about abortion if your position post-birth is "It ain't my problem."
You shit-sucking moron.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
