"Homoatheists", interesting. While I'm not gay myself some of my friends are. They are Christians. Well, one of them became atheist after studying theology and one is Muslim. I'm an agnostic and borderline atheist. Many non-atheists non-gays, like me, also support gay rights. Thus, your "namecalling" is generalization and shows ignorance. I'm not sure if the intention was to make it insulting, but I doubt that it has any impact in that sense.
Why does law, and people like me, support those rights? Science has demonstrated that it's part of human diversity and that throughout history a certain percentage of humans were gay. I'm not fully up to date, but if I remember it's also more likely for women to be bisexual, something which interestingly, many heterosexual men don't mind much. We also know that arguments like that homosexuals are sex abusers and pedophiles, or that legalizing some rights that allow the union of (mostly monogamous ones, BTW, or they wouldn't care much about marriage) leads to utmost general depravity, are false. That they're out to get or convert you is also false, forcing you into unwanted sex is already illegal.
Theoretically, same-sex attraction is simply a possible consequence of the biological necessity of attraction and sexual activity. Sex drive has been evolutionary advantageous for species survival and striving, as is the case for other mammals. Then we know how it can unite people.
In the past, about the same number had an orientation for the same sex and depending on society and culture this has either been acceptable or not. This means that in some societies they were marginalized and persecuted, this still happens today. Since this is natural, it could happen to someone you love. If in your culture they have to hide it, you may be the last person to know it, but they'll be who they are.
The good news is that they're not monsters, just humans like you and me, perhaps even your child. In the West, our governments are fortunately not theocracies. There is no need to uphold bigotry and denial. If it's not in your family, you don't even have to care, just leave them be. If it did happen in your family, would you rather have them grow up free of persecution or not? Would you prefer that they be perceived as freaks at school and by society, that it be the same for your family considered tainted by "sin" once discovered, or that they grow up, achieve their potential and be happy? Are you aware that in families who accept them as who they are, it's family business as usual and it doesn't change anything, other than allowing them to be happy, loved and integrated?
Now if you'll accept none of that because of supposed Biblical law, you decide to remain fringe and to hold principles outside of the law and to pursue a judgmental and arrogant attitude, to refuse to learn. Your God might be one of contempt and hate, it may be worth thinking about. If he was any powerful and found same-sex attraction abhorrent, he shouldn't have created it, or should have prevented Satan who created it. If Satan did it, he seemed powerless to prevent him. If it was that important, he'd let us know, instead of hiding any actual evidence of his existence. Ultimately, those are stories and other cultures have theirs.
Wake up, Neo, the bigotry has you, look, you're even accusing people who just want a life to be liars and propagandists...
