You may not know this, but the rainbow had never been seen until AFTER the great flood of Noah's day.
And God said this will be a sign to us to remember that God will never again send a worldwide flood to this earth.
Prior to the flood, they had never seen a rainbow in the sky. Why? Because the entire earth had a layer of water or water vapor around it up by the stratosphere that prevented direct sunlight. That was removed at the time of the great flood.
And that is why they saw a rainbow for the first time.

Bullshit. Unless God somehow changed how light refracts after the flood happened.

Except that when God was creating the earth he put the stars in the sky "to give their light upon the earth" and to use for reading portents and in divination. Kind of hard to do with that long-discredited vapor canopy theory. Not to mention that such a canopy of water vapor would block out most sunlight and so life on earth would be similar to a nuclear winter. And also not to mention how all that water would just float around in the atmosphere to begin with and not come falling to the ground.

Heh. No. No, the Bible describes the 'waters above' as being on top of a solid dome where we see the sky. Not a canopy around a sphere.
The bible is clear, rain happens when God opens little windows in the sky to let the waters rain down. There are little chests beside these windows where hail is stored, in case he wants to throw that shit down.
It's really hard to hold the biblical cosmology to be true at the same time, and in the same way, as our modern understanding from science.
You mention water vapor. We know, today, that clouds are formed of water vapor. In the Bible, clouds are made of something else. They just hold water. It's explained that only God's direct interference keeps the big fluffy things from falling apart under the weight of all that water they carry...
So, no, the bible doesn't support this water-canopy rationalization.
Nice story, though. Next time, try more steampunk.
The Greek goddess Iris, and the Norse Bifrost bridge were things looooong before your precious bible was even written. So god did not, in fact, invent the rainbow and neither does god have a patent on it.
You "may not know" this either, you fatuous fool, yet you keep repeating what some ignorant preacher told you without realizing how impossible it is. Please, stay in school and take a science class or two.

Chapter and verse, please.

...so it had never rained before then?
So that interview with the Meteorological Office didn't work out, eh? Ever hear of something they use called satellites : the terabytes of raw data sent by such is then crunched by another thing they use called supercomputers .
And that's why you have a 1K brain, you yahoo.
@Timjer
the Norse Bifrost bridge
Idris Elba would like a word with the OP.
It's true, you know.

The ancient Greeks, Vikings, Native Americans, and Australian aboriginals would like a word with you...

Were you there?
This water vapour that I've heard mentioned before. If it had existed, it would have kept the temperature of the Earth high enough that barely any multi-celled organisms would be able to survive.
Then again these people have work-arounds for everything.
Really, so the spectrum of light didn't split up before that? Interesting...
I'm glad Yahweh isn't going to send a worldwide flood. The "inland tsunami" in Queensland a few years ago was bad enough. He always was a big tyrant, glad he's in a good mood today.
The little Irish leprechaun at the end of the rainbow was a lot more generous, after I bought him a Guinness. Then he even gave me a big pot of gold, I'm having it valued now. Aye, to be sure, to be sure!
Those believing this HAVE to believe there was no moisture in the air, No sea spray, no fog or light drizzle or believe that the very nature of rainbows is magical even today.
Unfortunately I've seen the latter on YouTube a lot.
Confused?
