[On the Egyptian uprising.]

I wish I could share your optimism. I wish I could imagine the Muslim Brotherhood singing "We are the world" along with Michael Obama and Willie Nelson and The Gores lending their spiritual support. I wish I could believe in young idealistic Egyptian students imagining secular,progressive freedom from religion, free speech on their twitter accounts, their right to bear arms, truth, justice, their Facebook right to assemble, and The Egyptian Way.

Unfortunately, I am too old to be that ignorant.

Wake up. Wake up you pompous ignorant ass! What we are witnessing IS the Coming Insurrection, The culmination of leftist, Marxist and Islamic Radicals to destroy Capitalism.

That you chose to view this in any other context is testiment to your utter ignorance of Obamas and the leftist blueprint for global transformation.

Wake up and smell the ashes of slaughtered Jews... or not. Your choice.

If you had actually been paying attention to the religious aspect of the protests, Egyptian Muslims have been protecting and defending the Coptics, and vice versa. They have gotten along in mutual aid for centuries, which I always thought was the core message of both Islam and Christianity.

As someone who is ethnically Jewish, I find the Holocaust reference extraordinarily offensive...because I am a practicing Muslim (with Judaic influence) and all of the Muslims I know are far, far removed from antisemitism, because we believe in all of the Jewish prophets, including Jesus, whose name people like you are trampling through horse manure.

What you're seeing in Egypt is the authentic spirit of all of our faiths (and lack thereof) that strive toward our own liberation from oppression.

But you're too busy being ignorant of history, basic theology and, apparently, the fact that Marxism has nothing to do with liberalism or religion.

Whether Christian, Jew, Muslim, Sikh, Atheist, Hindu or whatever else, we all should be happy as human beings to see the liberation of Egypt.

And this is why you can't have a debate with an ultra-conservative; they go straight for the cheap shots which have absolutely no relevance to the subject at hand. Obama never killed any Jews nor does he condone the killing of Jews. Liberals don't either. And while I don't know what the Jews' situation in Egypt is it has nothing to do with the Egyptian revolution either.

There was also a democratic uprising in 1776. Not all revolutions turn out the same.

Not too sure this one is that much of a fundie. Wrong on some political aspects, true - but not a fundie.

Just to address some of the topics the others mentioned:

Lefties (and naturally Marxists) did, in fact, have an alliance with Islamic radicals. Somali is outfitted with mostly Soviet weaponry. Same was for Egyptian army for quite awhile. A healthy set of members of various terrorist groups in the Middle East (including PLA, Hezbollah and so on) were trained by KGB.

For that matter, when the US supported Taliban, they did not invent something new. They just did what USSR was doing all along.

BarkleUSA is correct in the estimate that this is not the democratic uprising... even if it was, it is clear that the army is taking over - and the protestants, apparently, are rather pro-army themselves. He is obviously wrong about the "slaughtered Jews" - Egypt was quick in confirming that all their peace agreements with Israel are still in place.

Actually Barkle, if you had paid closer attention to this revolution, plus Egyptian culture, you would know that there's a couple differences between Iran and Egypt.

1) While they disagreed with many of Mubarak's policies, the one thing that these revolutionaries and Mubarak agreed upon was their stance against radical Islam. This was not the case in Iran.

2) One huge difference is in this revolution, the primary motivation economic and political, not an anti-Western sentiment (though one might argue it was a bit, since WE helped keep Mubarak in power for years).

3) As someone has stated before, Egyptian Muslims and Coptic Christians have been cooperating for centuries, protecting each other against radical attacks. This was not the case in Iran, plus, this is not a bond easily broken. It's part of their heritage and traditions, something they take seriously over there.

Barfie, have you ever been in Egypt? Do you know that up to 20% of Egypt is Christian? Your attitude does nothing to help them. Rather, quite the contrary. Attitudes such as you mouth can have the effect of destroying the cooperation that was at work between Muslims and Christians.

My experience of ordinary Egyptians, Muslim and Copt, over many years, was unfailing kindness towards those whom they must have greatly envied for our relative wealth - something they could never aspire to in their situation.

Egypt will do what Egypt wants to do, and there should be no interference from other countries to achieve their agendas of influence or domination. The army seems to be behaving very responsibly. It has promised free elections in two months. Let us be patient and see what transpires.

As to capitalism, it was state encouraged capitalism that has got Ireland, Greece and Portugal (possibly also Spain) into their present financial/economic messes. And America, it should not be forgotten, was the one who started the ball rolling the the whole sub-prime cock-up.

Capitalism is based on the premiss of the rich making money and getting richer; and keeping the the workers in their places, ever ready to tug the forelock and stay in submission. But the problem is that America seems to be so brain-washed that it cannot/will not see that.

When did you last have a president that wasn't a millionaire? And Barfie do have anything approaching $100,000 in the bank? Do you own your home, or are you paying rent to a landlord?

Let's get real here and address the hard questions.

Sadly that is the reality of another time. It has ceased to function quite some time ago - about the end of the Vietnam losses, I would say. Even John Wayne couldn't have won that one.

It may be that history will mark that point as the beginning of the downward slide for western civilization. Perhaps the history books will say that 'capitalism got too greedy and floated bubbles that burst and ruined whole countries. And then China began its metoric rise. That is why we all speak perfect Mandarin today.'

It's not an unlikely scenario if America and other capitalist societies don't exercise more control over their economies in favour of citizens rather than big business. Big business has shown it cannot be trusted. that being so, it should be carefully regulated.

Yeah, conservatives ate it up when George Bush was "spreading democracy" in the Middle East by bombing countries and killing hundreds of thousands.

But the idea of a country's people rising up with peaceful protests, armed with nothing more than patience and courage, and successfully overthrowing their own tyrannical dictator?

They're horrified! They start hitting the panic button that the world's coming to an end! If the idea spreads that violence isn't the answer to everything, how will they maintain their control over the masses?

You know who else thinks bombing innocent people is the best way to gain political power? Al Qaida. Once again, conservative fundies are confirming just how much they have in common with terrorist organizations.

This whole movement is the result of the effects of the Tunisian Revolution on the Arab world and the spark that started this chain of protest was the bombing of a Coptic christian church in Alexandria and the fact that existing Opposition groups were already planning a day of revolt for January 25, coinciding with the National Police Day.

Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa warned at a summit in Egypt that "the Arab soul is broken by poverty, unemployment and general recession. This is in the mind of all of us. The Tunisian revolution is not far from us. The Arab citizen entered an unprecedented state of anger and frustration." He then called for an Arab "renaissance" to alleviate the burden that has caused the Arab frustration.

Or it could be Satan.
