(And if anybody reading this cries foul, think about it: do you really think that Jefferson's SLAVES were in any position to refuse the orders of their master? Knowing what might happen if they said "No?")

I agree with you that he should have been ashamed, but for a different reason. He should have been ashamed that he abused his position of authority in order to get sex.

Ah, yes. Treating human beings like property and sex objects, fathering children with a teenage girl, not once attempting to amend laws on slavery or abolish slavery - not even for the children he fathered, yes, all of that was just "careless behavior." Whatever makes you sleep at night.
