I’ve had this subject on my mind for a while now, and I never got around to writing about her. This is the story of Liz, a troubled teenager who once lived on my street, but God took her far away. Let me tell you a story.
Liz lived across the street. She and her younger brother (I can’t remember his name) would hang around outside, doing the crass things that unsaved teens do. She was the head of their group of friends and they would catcall me and call me “Beast” whenever I walked up the block.
This went on nonstop. I began to grow afraid of her. It got so bad that I had to use the back door and walk up the driveway to avoid her sneering cries of “BEAST! BEAST! BEAST!” She would say it on and on, over and over, like she was demon possessed. Somehow I knew that she was.
I had a friend back then who was a Godly woman. She heard me complain about this foul-mouthed girl and she simply told me to “show her God’s love.” This had such an impact on me that I knew it was the Holy Ghost speaking through her. So one day I resolved to do just that.
I remember I hesitantly came outside, looking toward the house where Liz lived. Sure enough, there she was, with her brother and her devilish cronies in tow. They saw me and began their usual rant of name calling, the ominous “BEAST! BEAST! BEAST!!” getting louder as I approached.
Finally I asked the Lord to help me show this poor soul His love. I walked across the street and said, “Liz, please don’t say that. I want to be your friend. I want you to know that Jesus loves you!”
I never got a good look at her face. It was all a blur. But she began to back away from me, and to run away as if she was being chased. Her brother and friends just gaped at her and started laughing hysterically at her while I kept coming, saying, “Come on, Liz, I just want to be your friend.” I just kept saying that Jesus loved her as she clambered over patio railings, tripping on steps, trying desperately to get away from the overpowering Light of the world which was in me. This is how I know she was possessed by devils. They can’t bear a true believer who is operating in the power of the Holy Ghost. She finally turned around, and, screaming, she fled from me down the sidewalk and vanished around the corner.
I never saw her again.
Later, I began to notice that Liz was not hanging around at that house anymore. Her brother and friends were gone too. I heard a neighbor say that they had moved. I was so relieved and I thanked God for using me.
