Haha! You're pretty prejudiced if you imagine this Archbishop "gladly" condemning a girl to death. I mean, he's opinionated, but he's not a freakin' sociopath.
And to answer the other claims, keep in mind that a health risk is different than a death sentence. And if it's twins, and we wanna be utilitarian about it..Two lives vs. one? I mean, it's obviously a horrible situation no matter which way you slice it, but I can't condemn the guy for trying to take a stand...

Yeah. I would understand the headline that the OP made with the article you linked to. But, that is not the article he linked to.
Also, I don't quite understand your position of "evil like this" comes from a "central source." Man, I grew up Catholic, and that is one of the most decentralized systems I've ever been in. I've had a priest tell me he doesn't believe in God (which still throws me a loop.) Sure, they're a stickler about a few issues, like sexuality, but I don't think their position is wholly unfair.
I agree that they should be a lot more sensitive to the issue (if nothing else, for their own sake), but I'm not entirely convinced that they're wrong in their idea that all human life is equally valuable.

I think you're a little too strongly solidified in your opinions about abortion. Consider that the article never said the abortion saved her life, but merely that her pregnancy posed a threat to her life (which, to be fair, a lot of pregnancies do. They can go wrong awfully frequently.)
I encourage you to try and understand it through the lens of how a pro-life individual would. If all human life is equally valuable, and the woman has twin fetuses inside her, shouldn't everything be done to try and bring those two lives to term? I think the issue is horrible no matter how you slice it, but I can see the underlying rationale behind the Church's stance.

Like, I said. The rape issue factors into it, as I can only guess at the horrible mental duress a potential mother would have in bearing the child of a rape.
On the other hand, if it were a nineteen year old who had casual, unprotected sex and got knocked up and then decided to nip it in the bud (not that I'm saying that that's the majority of abortion instances, but a hypothetical situation), then I would say that yes, she extinguished an innocent human life (i.e. murder).
