That it has been the best-selling book for 2,000 years and subjected to far more intense scrutiny than any other book and has come out without a scratch suggests that trusting it isn’t baseless. I don’t believe it’s arrogant to think that the Bible is right and other holy books aren’t. There is probably some truth in them, indeed, but wrong is wrong and arrogance has nothing to do with it.

"That it has been the best-selling book for 2,000 years and "
And then along came Harry fucking Potter.
That's why the fundies don't like him. It's a sales numbers thing.
Without a scratch? You can "scratch" the bible using no other source other than the bible.
As a religious text, it's terrible. You figured that someone in the editing department would have at least proof-read it.
"Without a scratch"?
1. The Bible contradicts reality (e.g., bats are not birds, insects have six legs instead of four, snakes don't talk).
2. The Bible contradicts logic (e.g., God's treatment of humanity throughout Genesis, for starters -- most new parents do considerably better by their children without being omniscient).
3. The Bible contradicts itself (e.g., conflicting creation stories, conflicting accounts of the crucifixion and resurrection, conflicting accounts of Judas' death).
"Without a scratch"? After ANY decent amount of honest analysis, the Bible is freakin' shredded!

"That it has been the best-selling book for 2,000 years"
Isn't the best selling book of all time Mao Zedong's "Little Red Book"? Or does it not count due to some sort of technicality?
BTW My mum actually has two copies of the little red book, one in English and one in Chinese. Both genuine books from the Chinese government of the time. She wrote and asked for them (something to do with school work) so they sent her them. I bet she was on a few MI5 lists for a few years!
The bible queers of old had a habit of torturing and killing them who scrutinized it.
Maybe no scratches, but it's thoroughly drenched in human blood.
Heresy is merely heresy.
Best selling for 2000 years??
The thing wasn't sold until the printing press came along. before that most people could not read.
The bible wasn't even the bible until it was put together in... in.. I forget, was it the 14th century? Someone can tell us, I'm sure. But the bible as you know it did not exist when Jesus was alive. Unless the new testament fell back in time.
Ok in the bible it states that Jeebus walked on water.
In Harry Potter, Harry does magic.
Yet Potter is evil and Jeebus is good?!
Name the top ten selling books in 0965!
The only reason it has been the top seller is you fundies buy them by the truckload to hand out, for free, to folk that need real help - you know the hand-up to improve their lives rather than a hand-out to claim points for Jebus.
2,000 years? No
The first bibles weren't made until around
325 ce. Constantine ordered 50 of them to be
made and they were nothing like the bibles of
today.
There just a few NT manuscripts available and
they were copies of previous copies that were
also copies.
There are no original NT manuscripts.
The gospels, for example, could not have been written by the people they are named after.
Those people were very poor, public schools didn't exist, any education was very expensive.
So, it is not likely that any of the apostles could read or write. If they could, the language would have been Aramaic and not Latin or Greek.
Now some folks say that one of the apostles was a doctor. Where did he go to medical school?
Medical schools didn't exist until the 8th century and they were teaching astrology as
medicine.
Back to bibles. The first bibles that come close to what we have today didn't exist until about the 9th century. So,..2,000 years? No.
"Without a scratch??" That's like saying London came out of the Blitz without a scratch.
Bats are birds? Pi = 3? Insects have four legs? The striped goat breeding thing?
And that's just for starters.
It's bullshit, irrespective of how many copies have or haven't been sold.
"That it has been the best-selling book for 2,000 years..."
- And yet, surprisingly few of its fans have actually read it.
"...and subjected to far more intense scrutiny than any other book..."
- Again, not by its fans for the most part.
"...and has come out without a scratch suggests that trusting it isn’t baseless."
- Apparently you are one such fan.
"I don’t believe it’s arrogant to think that the Bible is right and other holy books aren’t."
- All holy books, including the bible, have the same amount of objective evidence for their supernatural claims; zero.
"There is probably some truth in them, indeed, but wrong is wrong and arrogance has nothing to do with it."
- One would not think so after reading your screed.
subjected to far more intense scrutiny
Yet you will never accept what has been discovered about how it came to be, accept to put its parts in their actual context, understand all its contradictions, etc. And despite that knowledge, you will keep pretending that it's the magic innerant word of "God". And you will hypocritically be blind to what you do not want to see and twist what you like to promote conspiracy theories, bigotry and lies, today.
Confused?
