"My point is Eric, is that you and Ray both acknowledge science when it fits your needs. Since science has determined that man is an animal and an ape, why don't you accept that?" ~Debra
Debra, we love Science because it points to The Creator. God's attributes are clearly seen through the laws of Science, Physics, and Mathematics. Like Him, these laws are immaterial, unchanging, and universal.
You say that science has determined that man is an animal. How has it done this? When you give attributes to Science which it does not possess, you are committing a Logical fallacy called Reification. Science does not determine anything. Fallible men study science and come to different conclusions - but they are often mistaken.

"God's attributes are clearly seen through the laws of Science, Physics, and Mathematics. Like Him, these laws are immaterial, unchanging, and universal."
Except unlike physical laws, God hasn't been shown to exist.
"these laws are immaterial, unchanging, and universal."
The laws of physics we know fail in Black Hole or singularity fields. The laws of physics are altered in 'stable space' and only explainable by other laws. The laws DO CHANGE as the constants only apply under most, but not all, conditions we see.
Science does therby trump religion fiercley in one very important aspect, it's track record for predictions, not hoodoo guesswork or 'Bible Code' nonsense but good old math based prediction.
"Debra, we love Science because it points to The Creator."
LIAR.
Demonstrates her point very clearly. E.g.:
"we love Science because it points to The Creator"
but
"Science does not determine anything"
And then also says "Fallible men study science and come to different conclusions - but they are often mistaken."
Yet fails to see that this means "science points to a creator" is a conclusion drawn by fallible men who come to different conclusions and are often mistaken.
According to creationists, science is correct except for: evolution, genetics, speed of light, radioactive decay, cosmic microwave background radiation, plate tectonics, conservation of energy, star formation, and bananas.
I really wish Eric and Kent would reject current medical science the way they reject current evolutionary, biological, and geological science.
Especially the next time they need the services of a modern emergency room. "Medical science, it's just a theory! and "Science does not determine anything. Fallible men study science and come to different conclusions - but they are often mistaken!"
I'm sure they're the first ones in line when they need modern medicine, though. Hypocritical bastards.
Yes, Eric, through studying the movements of stars, we conclude clearly that the Hebrew war deity Yahweh Sabbaoth conjured the universe ex nihilo 6000 years ago before getting pissed off over an apple. Seriously, do you listen to yourself?
But thank you for being dumb enough to ask how we know man is an animal. All of the attributes which are common to all animals and definitive of animals are present in humans. Even the cognitive traits that you, Eric, would love to insist set humans apart from animals can be seen to lesser degrees within other mammals.
According to Dr. Dino (Sr. & Jr.) and his ilk, humans are minerals....dirt to be exact.
"We ain't come from no monkey, goldurnit! We came from DIRT! (as if that was any better)"
If "science determined man is an animal" is reification, what the fuck is "science points to the creator"?
That's a fallacy called "special pleading" (my reification is just a rhetorical device, yours is an illogical flaw in your argument), delivered by a phallusy called "Eric Hovind".
Canadiest
All definitions of Animal are applicable to mankind. ALL.
There is no evidence of divine creation, NONE, there is also no evidence in your Bible that our creation is any more special than the snakes.
I just cannot understand how someone can be this dumb. How can you still remember to breathe with such a low level of intelligence? How can you even form words?
Even a quadruple facepalm wouldn't be able to convey my opinion on this level of stupidity.
You say that science has determined that man is an animal.
No, man is an animal by definition of the word "animal". So the English language has determined that man is an animal, just as it has determined that blue is a color. You can invent your own bizarre definition of "color" so it doesn't include "blue", but you're no longer speaking English.
Debra, we love Science because it points to The Creator. ... Science does not determine anything.
Your honor, the witness's statement contains a clear contradiction!
The point is Eric? Well, that's good to know.
Which Creator does Science point to? Brahman? Zeus? Odin? Gaia?
Aren't Physics and Mathematics parts of Science?
You do know that Laws of Science are just short statements, right? That Theories are complex descriptions and determinations?
Science has determined that we are:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Primates
Suborder: Haplorhini
Family: Hominidae
Genus: Homo
Species: H. sapiens
Is that enough "attributes" for ya?
Fallible men created religions.
Why would we want to find Biblical answers? Would you trust answers in the Quran or the Hávamál?
Yes, you proved the point she stated.
Science: roses are red, violets are blue
Ray: Creator proofs.
Science: Thousands dead in Nepal earthquake due to tectonic movements.
Ray:.............
“Like Him, these laws are immaterial, unchanging, and universal.”
No, sweetie, they’re not. It’s all a matter of scale.
Two cars driving at each other at 55mph approach at 110mph.
But two spaceships flying at each other at 90% of the speed of light are NOT approaching at 180% of the speed of light.
“You say that science has determined that man is an animal. How has it done this?”
It’s defined ‘animal’ and man fits that definition.
“When you give attributes to Science which it does not possess, you are committing a Logical fallacy called Reification.”
And when you say ‘only God’ can do something science does, you’re just a blithering idiot.
"Science does not determine anything.”
Wrong.
“Fallible men study science and come to different conclusions - but they are often mistaken.”
Then you can use science to prove that man is not an animal?
What part of the definition of ‘animal’ do we not possess?
Or that of ‘mammal’?
‘Primate?’
‘Ape?’
Or, what would you add to the definition of any of those to make Man a discrete category?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
