The Kremlin chose Trump specifically because he would be a miserable failure. Poot is a former KGB colonel, not the type to mistakenly put a blundering idiot in charge of something covert.
The "Hillary wants war with Russia" thing was a piece of Alt-right misinformation. They created fake Clinton campaign posters with pictures of female soldiers saying "First she broke the glass ceiling, now she must break the Iron Curtain" and "Draft our Daughters," presenting these a genuine Hilary campaign material.
The Mexican drug war thing is part of a right-wing conspiracy theory claiming that Mexico is trying to annex the American southwest and create an "Aztec Homeland" called Aztlan.
Putin knew Trump as too much of an imbecile to tow the line and not get caught. Poot anticipated the collusion investigation, and will play along with it until the time comes when The DOJ and Intelligence Agencies close the noose around Trump.
At that time, Trump will most likely refuse to step down, barricade himself in the WH, and sit tight with his mercenaries. (Trump has 11 paramilitary security agencies guarding him, all of which are private and not government accountable.)
Trump will get on twitter, declare the investigation a "deep state coup," claim Obama is behind it, and call on the Oath Kreeps, III% goons, Bundy Boys, and Sovereign Citizens to fight the DOJ and come to DC to protect him.
Trump will get on the "Red Telephone" with Russia, Poland, Turkey, and the Philippines, inviting them to form a "Peacekeeping Coalition" to invade US soil and restore his presidency.
It is *remotely* possible, that the DPRK could be convinced to hit the US installations at Guam and Okinawa with their new missiles, thereby making the US unable to repel the Russian forces.
