obviously if the man is going to kill his wife or beats her severely thats different. But the state has no business getting involved if he just hits her.

Oh no?. So, they can forbid contraconceptives, they can call social workers BUT they can´t save the woman´s dignity and enforce the law?, go with the judge and hit her. You´d be a wonderful couple.

I would be surprised if this were a true story. I don't see Germans thinking much of Sharia law. Certainly not to the extent of allowing it to overrule secular law.
Berny: It is not like she allowed the man to beat his wife over and over without intervention. The man is forbidden to approach his wife, and is so since some time. For the judge, this was safe enough, and my guess is she just wanted to illustrate some aspects of islam or the cultural background. It is not that she denied the woman the divorce based on the Koran.
