I found this excerpt from his LotR review:

'The servants of the Dark Lord are the wizard Saruman, the nine Ringwraiths (former kings of men), the Orcs, and the Uruk-Hai. Saruman and the Ringwraiths are traitorous members of the races of the Fellowship. But who are the Orcs, the hideous, greedy, treacherous, squat, squabbling servants of the Dark Lord, who feast like maggots on the corpse of murdered nature, who swarm like cockroaches through the bowels of the Earth? They are Tolkien's equivalent of Wagner's Niebelungen, who are an allegorical representation of the Jews. And then there are the Uruk-Hai -- the tall, muscular, aggressive, stupid, black-skinned soldiers of the Dark Lord -- spawned and gestated in mud, and unleashed by Sauron and the Orcs to enslave and exterminate the fair races of the Fellowship.

As my companion and I drove away into the sprawling urban hell of Atlanta, I wondered aloud: "How can people watch a movie like that and then return to this without feeling profoundly alienated? How can they see such magnificent natural landscapes and such beautiful, organic buildings -- and then feel at home in this tacky, plastic cityscape? How can they see such serious, noble, idealistic people -- and then watch 'Friends' and 'Will and Grace'? How can they see such magnificent specimens of the White race -- and then contentedly rub elbows with Negroes, Mestizos, and Jews?"'

The "race" that Tolkien equated with the Jews was that of the Dwarves, who, though drawn by the wealth of under-earth and most skilled in working it, were explicitly stated to have proven incorruptible to Sauron's wiles. Elves, some of whom had displayed, in the elder days a truly murderous vainglory, had supplied the stock from which orcs were bred. It was delicately implied that Celebrian had been raped by them during her captivity, and found no cure in Middle Earth. We never see Orc women, and can speculate that Orcs perpetuated themselves through such means.

Note, however, that orcs are never in command. They are stated to have been reduced to their present condition through brutality. In this, they were in a position analogous to that of Axis citizens who revelled in a brutishness they would never have considered in their former state, a matter of which Tolkien, writing while England was under Axis assault, was keenly aware.

Oh, look. Klansmen trying to appear erudite. You know, the imposture of some sort profound, intellectual thesis only makes your views (and the inherent question-begging that they involve) seem even more pathetic and backwards. I know you wish to comport yourself as some sort of great thinker, but nobody with two brain cells to rub together is going to be fooled by this prolix tripe of yours. Just come out and say what's on your mind, which likely amounts to little more than "I don't like them darkies", because, frankly, this is just embarrasing.

What was it that Dan Dennet used to say? If something's not worth doing, it's not worth doing well. I think we have a prime example of that here.

In all seriousness, though, how did you come to THAT conclusion? At the very least, there's some inconvenient counterevidence that I would find hard to ignore in your position. Otherwise, how do you explain the 2010 Pew Research Center poll that found 2-to-1 opposition to burqa bans in the USA while France and Germanyboth countries with strong and aggressively enforced hate speech bansboth overwhelmingly support them?

Regardless of how you feel about Islam as a religion, sumptuary codes belong in the Middle Ages, not in modern liberal democracies. Even if you disagree with that assertion, the deduction from that poll is fairly obvious: libertarianism breeds libertarianism, while authoritarianism greases up the slope for more autoritarianism. We all know how well the latter's worked out for minorities of any stripe you care to name historically, now, don't we?

Here's the rough outline of the story we're thinking of so far:

The people of Mah'kayta are simple grassland hunters with great spiritual insight. They eschew the technology and warfare of surrounding kingdoms, relying instead on the protection of a being they call Ko'Kamiyu, The Unseen One. Although they lack the trappings of some of their neighboring kingdoms, Ko'Kamiyu nourishes the earth and defends them in combat.

Every one thousand years, a protector, called The Mahayakan is born who is given Ko'Kamiyu's special blessing to lead his people. The protagonist, a young black woman named Vilya, is given the blessing, but her brother, Azazel, kidnaps her into the woods as a child and leaves her for dead, returning to proclaim himself The Mahayakan instead. He institutes a cult and forces people to worship him, but despite his claim to have Ko'Kamiyu's blessing, the earth begins to dry up and the prosperity of the people slowly withers. An earthquake opens a passage through the previously daunting mountains to the north, and the Mah'kayta are overrun by an army of ice giants from a distant land. They are carried away into captivity and subjugated to the ice giants, and it is soon discovered that the giants need them not for physical labor, but for a more sinister purpose - the giants lack souls and wish to steal the Mah'kayta's souls to replace their own. Vilya must then return from her exile, rediscover the blessing that has been denied her, and restore her people to peace and prosperity. However, she soon discovers that she is unable to regain Ko'Kamiyu's blessing, because while she was in the woods, she killed and ate another Mah'kayta, not realizing they were her kin. This leads her on a quest for a redeemer, not only for herself, but for her people.
