Nah, the demand will exist regardless of whether supply does. An addict craves their drug regardless of whether there is anyone there to sell it to them. We crave food whether our cupboards are full or empty. The only thing we can do about pedophilia is to make sure that pedophiles have a safe release valve for these impulses.
IMHO, legalizing possession of child pornography is the most ethical answer . 1) It incentivizes pedophiles to stay at home and jerk off instead of going out to rape. In my experience incentive works better than punishment, and most people will choose an easy option over a dangerous one. 2) Legalizing possession would allow police to prioritize their resources in catching the manufacturers and distributors. I would rather they go after the ones causing the MOST suffering, rather than trying to catch every bee in the hive with an individual net. 3) I have seen nothing to indicate that pedophiles are not human. I don't think they would want to harm a child any more than a straight man wants to harm women, or a gay man wants to harm men. It follows that they would likely be as disgusted by any of us to see the worst kinds of sadistic child-rape. If possession was legalized, suddenly the moral pedophiles have a way to report the sadistic rapes without risking the danger of a life sentence.

As long as your drug is non-sentient, and you refrain from harming others during intoxication, it's no-one else's business.
Children are sentient, however, and they are harmed by being molested.
Child pornography is often done WITH children, asshole!
Buying it and "using" it is giving the manufacturers and distributors more customers, and an incentive to keep molesting.
Most straight and gay men do not rape. Children can't give informed consent, so every sexual encounter with a child is statutory rape.
It might be possible to make an exception for animated child-porn, where there are no victims. But would the manufacturers be content with that? A lot of the ones that "manufacture" child-porn are pedophiles themselves and simply sell/distribute their own molestations to others. Would they settle for just "doing it" in a computer animation?
Real child pornography is harmful in its production. That alone means it will never be legalized.
Art and computer generated images, on the other hand, are and should be legal, since having an alternative prevents most pedos from doing anything worse.
Pedophilia is a mental disorder, and people who have it should seek help, but the witch hunt around them prevents them from doing so. In such a case, so long as nobody is harmed in the creation of it, art and CGI are acceptable substitutes.
UK: Operation Ore/Yewtree.
2009 Coroners & Justice Act.
Paedophilia legalsed ? Jimmy Savile made sure it'll never happen.
Come to Britain and stand outside Scotland Yard: the centre of Operation Ore - with the world's press present - and say the same.
Every second you're not on the next flight to Heathrow/Gatwick, you admit your 'Opinion' is wrong .
Who is creating the kiddie porn? How many of them are abusing children because there's a market for it? Didn't you ever think about the awful position these children are in?
One of the responsibilities of an adult is to defend the welfare of the young. Grow up; adulthood awaits you.
@Prager:
OK, Alex, why don't you go door-to-door and ask parents if they'd be willing to lend you their children so you can make your nice legal child pornography. Get back to me when you've done that.
He wouldn't need to. There are people out there who prostitute their kids to feed their drug addictions (mostly women) or make videos of their kids and exchange copies with other pedos (mostly men). These people are very rare, but they'd happily "volunteer" their kids for a "legal" porn industry if they could get something out of it.
@doomcup
I believe that statistically speaking, having ready access to fictionally made child porn does nothing to actually dissuade pedophiles from acting out. If anything, it normalizes it, provides a method for pedophiles to groom children into accepting such relationships as normal, and prey on them even more.
So no, I'm against the legalization of fictional porn either. What pedophiles need is therapy, not a mythical outlet.
@Zachski. maybe that sometimes unfortunately happens but I would think it depends on if the person already wants to act on their desires or not. there actually are some already disturbed people who play violent video games and then kill someone but we don't blame the video games.if the person already does not want to harm a child, looking at a picture of Penny Gadget stripping naked won't make them want to.
I take a pretty vicious and unforgiving stance against anyone with predatory intention towards children and especially their "victimless crime" lying-through-teeth-minimization of capitalizing on crimes that have already been committed or psyches already broken but I'll have to agree with doomcup on this one insofar as fantasies are concerned even though I'm skeptical of the idea pedophiles would really consider it a viable alternative to their obsessions. I'll also note that someone inclined to commit a crime will do so regardless of whatever media they decide to consume and said media isn't really intended to quell their urges in the first place but a fantasy is just a fantasy even if it's disturbing to most. Otherwise you would have to ban violent fiction, video games, and even bedroom role-play. I'd go as far as saying the uneasiness and general disturbing feeling most people experience may even be part of the point. Just like with movies and games simulating violence or causing shock/fear in the viewer for a rush without doing anything to put anyone at actual risk of harm I think in certain kinds of fictionalized sexual scenarios the idea that you're doing something you know you shouldn't do - and wouldn't in real life - is supposed to be part of the appeal if not the main focus over the specific content. Further I think such fantasies actually reinforce personal boundaries as much as it tests or potentially expands them.
I've only my own experience to go by, of course. I'll admit right out that I'm into hentai and frankly you're not going to find much that doesn't eventually veer into weird, often downright horrific places. I think of that shit happening in real life - much less imagine myself actually doing any of it - and I'm filled with absolute visceral disgust and rage. Where I know it is fantasy however it somehow serves to excite me. And in video games where the world is devoid of meaningful consequences there are still things I won't do if there's a choice not to. It actually sharpens my awareness of what I consider wrong, interestingly enough, rather than letting me indulge in my worst aspects finding out just how vile I can be and call that entertainment.
"I don't think they would want to harm a child any more than a straight man wants to harm women, or a gay man wants to harm men."
The main differences are actually simple to understand: children are in a vulnerable and dependant condition, meaning that they will seemingly agree when they actually feel compelled. They are too young to understand sexuality and its implications, if they're young enough they may never even have had the desire. You claim that it does not harm them but there is evidence that it does. For all those reasons, most societies have laws about informed consent.
Confused?
