I actually agree with the idea that welfare and charity are bad. But then again, I think that welfare and charity are part of the reason for human civilization's decline into decadence (along with most religion, for that matter), and in any case this assertion makes Hovind a bit of a hypocrite given the nature of his stated faith.

How does caring for each other cause civilization's decline? You can't get more civilized than a community that's peaceful and works together!
I think these goobers think a crapsack world where life's brutish & short and everyone's killing each other is paradise. They really are from Bizzarroworld!
@Pharaoh Bastethotep: True evil never dies, just as people can continue to live after a fashion as long as they are remembered. Ayn Rand, sadly, is likely to continue corrupting the young and justifying the selfish and greedy for a long time to come.
@SpukiKitty : @Chloe : "Charity and help is bad when it goes to people I don't like, obviously. Helping others is only good when I personally benefit, and bad in all other cases." /Karlsbad
@Pharaoh B
I thought Ayn Rand was dead.
She was sure as hell against welfare, but actually NOT against charity. (I believe she said something like people shouldn't feel they have a duty to do it, they should do it if they actually want to.)
Kent 'Oh, Mark 12:17 Doesn't Apply To Me!' Hovind wanted to be on the welfare teat of Tax Exemption .
So you'll not only want all right-wing Fundamental ist Christain churches & related organisations etc to have their tax exemption revoked but not only start to pay their way but be forced to pay their share of the nearly $17 quadrillion in back-taxes owed by Christianity in the US since 1776: running to untold trillions then...?!
(*Crickets chirp *)
...thought as much.
Therefore you don't have the right to so much as think of having an opinion on the matter of welfare: not when fundie Christainity is declining into worse -than decadence: Josh Buggar & Roy Less .
Why is helping out someone suffering through misfortune a bad thing? I would say that helping out the less fortunate actually helps society, because when poor people are taken care of they don't resort to crime to survive, like they would if society tells them "fuck you." Conservatives always claim to be tough on crime but they don't want to do a damn thing to try to alleviate it in the first place. They scream when you suggest they pay a little more in taxes to help the less fortunate, but are totally willing to pay more in taxes to build more prisons. They're also the same people who hate the idea of universal health care, but they hold fundraisers for sick people who can't pay their medical bills.
Attitudes like this led to the Department of Work and Pensions becoming the Department of Wankers and Prats.
Karlsbad would probably support the Worthless Crap Assessment, where they ask about the food you eat and the TV you watch instead of anything actually related to your condition. And then the assessor completely ignores everything you said and writes a report about how well kempt you appear to be and how calm you were (even if you broke down in tears during the assessment)- and then some pen pusher at the DWP decides you should be subjected to the sanctions regime at the job centre so you spend six to eight months crying, being sick and wanting to kill yourself.
Ummm
