The Crusades was not an act of Christianity. It was a ridiculous act committed by the Catholics. Don't blame Christianity for the mistakes that the Catholic church made. Same thing with the Inquisition. These were not Christians. In fact, during the Inquistition, a lot of Christians died for owning the Bible in their own language. Who's the history buff now? All of the wars, all of the acts that you're talking about were done by the Catholic church long ago, NONE of which is in any way attributed to Christianity. Christianity does not condone such acts.

Sorry, bud, but if Catholics aren't Christians, neither are you. Because, short of revelation, the original teachings of Jesus are about 1800 years dead.
Try this one Jarad- let's just blame Christianity (which I assume you mean Protestantism) for its countless infighting (which in the early days was quite violent) and the Holocaust (you can try to blame that on Hitler being atheist, Catholic, pagan, whatever you dig up this week but the German people were LUTHERANS)
Catholics are Christians, moreover, at the time, the only alternative was being an Eastern Orthodox Christian. If by Christian you mean, Protestant, check all the atrocities your ancestors did such as burning innocent people or killing quakers.
I was raised Catholic, so I know some things that Catholics do. Among them:
1. Worship Jesus Christ as the Son of God.
2. Hold Sunday as a sacred day of rest.
3. Hold mass on those Sundays.
4. Celebrate holidays like Christmas and Easter.
5. Read stories ordained by holy men, collected in a book called the Holy Bible.
Come to think of it, it sounds to me like Catholics are Christians.
He's right, people! Leave this one alone!
No real christian would ever...
Wear a cross,
Belive in Jesus as the son of god,
Belive in Jesus as God,
Hold the Bible to such high reguard,
Go to church on Sundays,
or use the "No true Scottsman" argument.
Wait, does that mean Jarad is not a Christian either?
MY GOD! HE'S RIGHT! I just ASSUMED that Catholics were Christians because... you know... Catholics were kind of the people who decided which books got into the Bible... The Catholic Church were kind of the first pastors... The pope mentions God and Jesus in his speeches and prayers... but I suppose you are right. Catholics CAN'T be true Christains, like Stalin and the Soviet Union weren't true Atheists!
Hate to break it to you, Jarad, but Protestantism came out of Catholicism. If it weren't for the Catholics, it wouldn't exist.
Besides, Protestants have committed plenty of crimes all on their own. The princes and kings who originally became Protestant usually did so for decidedly unholy reasons, like greed and hunger for power. Protestants have been involved in plenty of wars and atrocities; Thirty Years War, witchhunts in the Americas and Europe, Oliver Cromwell's brutal putdowns of Irish revolts. You'd be better off saying "nobody before three years ago was a true Christian."

Actually, seeing as we had pouring rain in January and February, and we're now experience sub-zero temperatures and are expecting snow in mid-April, I would steer away from that last example.

So, when I went to Mass today, and the priest spoke about Jesus, God, Easter, the crucifixion and resurrection, that had nothing to do with Christianity? Got ya.
Seriously though, what is it with fundies and their obsession with claiming Catholics aren't Christian for whatever bullshit reason?
Christian
adjective relating to or professing Christianity or its teachings.
noun a person who has received Christian baptism or is a believer in Christianity.
Catholics undego baptism, therefore catholics are christian. Since the Oxford English Dictionary is the authority on all things defined, you lose.
Same thing with the Inquisition. These were not Christians. In fact, during the Inquistition, a lot of Christians died for owning the Bible in their own language. Who's the history buff now?
History Buff: Definition 1.) One who enjoys the studying of History, and anything of historical value.
Definition 2.) Fundie slang. Mind-numbingly stupid, lacking. See Cretin.
While not all Christians are Catholic, all Catholics are, in fact, Christian.
I'm really waiting for further denials of other sects; eventually it will be "Only Southern Baptists are Christians!"
If anyone still has time to read this / gets this, Wikipedia has a good definition of what a christian is; Christianity, as people call it, is divided into basic sects; Born-again believers, and then people who believe in salvation through works. Born again believers believe that Jesus Christ is the one and only savior, not works or baptism. This is the point of view that Jarad was coming from. C.S Lewis wrote, "But, of course, being a Christian does mean thinking that where Christianity differs from other religions, Christianity is right and they are wrong. As in arithmetic - there is only one right answer to a sum, and all other answers are wrong; but some of the wrong answers are much nearer being right than others" (Mere Christianity, page 35). This is why he said that Catholics aren't christians, because from a born-again point of view, most catholics aren't christians. If you've got questions, e-mail me at lonespy777@juno.com. So, basically, you all are right, depending on your point of view.
"Don't blame Christianity for the mistakes that the Catholic church made."
Fine. Don't claim the Catholics when you're crowing about a majority, then.
You are absolutely correct about the Crusades in every respect. Pope Urban was certainly in the top 10 in the rogues gallery.
Christianity, or its imposition, has a lot to answer for.
But of late, some small and very vocal cults (ie Rupture Ready) have embarked upon a campaign of seeing everyone and everything that isn't in the Bible as being evil, as well as putting forward the most blantant "facts" worthy only of the brain-dead.
THIS is what can only be addressed by you, as it is christains like this that are the major enemy of your faith.
Atheists aren't offended by gods, they are offended by the death and bigotry that comes with worshiping them.
Confused?
