[On the recent terrorist attacks in Norway.]

Beck said that the Labour party youth camp on the island, where 68 people were murdered, bore "disturbing" similarities to the Nazi party's notorious juvenile wing.

Beck, a multimillionaire darling of the Tea Party movement, said on his nationally-syndicated radio show: "There was a shooting at a political camp, which sounds a little like, you know, the Hitler youth. I mean, who does a camp for kids that's all about politics? Disturbing."

Most, if not all, political parties in Norway have youth organisations. It's not a place for indoctrication, as Beck seems to think, but a place for idealistic teenagers to meet. Not all stay on as members of the parties of their respective youth organisations when they grow up, but change parties as their ideals and opinions change, or don't become politically active as adults at all. Obviously, ABB's (the shooter) plan to hinder reqruitment to the Labour party has failed, as the number of members of (all) political youth organisations have grown in the last week. Indeed, even the regular parites have had an increase of members, I've heard. That's the nice thing in all the horror - the shootings did scare and sadden us a lot, but in the end, it has only made Norwegians want to work harder for our democracy.

Most of the victims were 15-16 years old. That's still young Glenn, but the kids were old enough to start thinking for themselves. How many high schools in America have a young Republicans or a young Democrats club? Why aren't you criticizing those?

Hey, Glenn, if your upset by this sort of political indoctrination, then this ought to make you melt with rage: Christian churches have children of all ages meet every Sunday in order to teach them the doctrines of a specific religion. These churches even have summer camps for kids who aren't old enough to make informed decisions about religion -- they have camps for children in elementary school. And when they get older, these churches send some of these kids out to do volunteer work for them. There's even one church that sends 19-25 year old boys away for two years to do missionary work? Isn't that awful? What church could that possibly be?

Oh, wait, that's the Mormon Church. The Mormon Church of which you happen to be a member.

You know what this is? This is Glenn Beck simultaneously trying to justify this man's actions while pathetically grasping at anything that can distance the shooter's right-wing fueled anti-immigration rampage, from his right-wing fueled anti-immigration rhetoric. The mere fact that a Christian has gone on a shooting spree is so destabilizing to his world view, that he has to grab onto to anything to absolve himself and his ideology of blame. So much for the virtue of Personal Responsibility. If you actually held to that 9/12 bullshit you created, you would have personally apologized to the people of Norway on behalf of the American right-wing, for all the violent rhetoric you've been preaching for the two years you were on Fox News.

Glenn Beck has just shown how ignorant he is of European affairs. Presumably he has never been to Norway. This slug has insulted a grieving country in the moment when it is paying tribute to its dead and bereaved. What a scummy, slimy, shitty thing to do. Disgusting creature! He doesn't even know what a thorn Norway was in the side of Nazism, or that political parties in many European countries have youth wings for politically aware/interested late teens and early twenties.

I am sickened to read about Beck, having today watched on TV the dignified memorial ceremony,and earlier having seen the King and Queen Norway wipe their tears. You'll forgive me than if, as a European I say I despise this kind of media whoring as much, or maybe even more, than that engaged in by the News of the World.

Let me answer this for you, Glen Moron Beck...

I attended Utøya a few summers and it was amazing. This was during the last troves of the Vietnam war and the political discussions were great, at that time Norway was also applying for membership in EEC or today's EU and the mother party was spearheading the effort while we were opposing it for the most part.

It was great for networking and several of todays Norwegian government members were also AUF members and on the camp during my years there so I know quite a bit of the people you see on TV representing Norway these days.

These camps were invaluable for our development as human beings and as young politicians., During those years I was also active in student politics on a national level so Glen, this is completely normal and has nothing to do with Hitler Jugend whatsoever, your jesus camp is more in line with the nazis!

And don't forget the most important role of the camp - summer, sun, scantily clad bodies, hormones and tons of youth - you do the math!
