Why do people attack Christianity like that? Why do they distort the truth? Sure, Christianity has been used to do bad stuff in the past, but that is only because people can be bad. It's NOT the religion that's bad, it's the SOME of the people who follow it.
Religion does not kill people, people kill people.
Do you agree?

*agrees with Kristi* I will say, most of the people who follow Christianity are good people. It's just the fundie types that get a high out of telling others that they're going to Hell, and/or the power-hungry types that will twist and use religion to their own ends that give it a bad name. Same goes with all the other religions of the world, both past and present.
I've never seen the words leap off of a page of the Bible or Qur'an and strangle a person. :P
So, it's not religion itself that kills people. People do kill others in the name of religion, but I daresay they would find other reasons for the killing if religion wasn't around.
No not at all. People make the religion, and then use it as an excuse to do wrong.
And the people who do nothing to complain or try to stop the SOME people who are causing the problems become part of that problem due to their inactivity.
One of the main problems with your christian religion is the bible. you have two sections, one of which is true, unless it's an allegory, and you are supposed to follow the rules in that book, even though the second book states that the first books rules no longer apply. With that kind of disturbed thinking, it's no surprise you guys start lashing out. it's insanity, and you follow it mindlessly. Like they say, if you sleep with dogs you're gonna get fleas. (or in christianity's case, fleeced)
Why do they distort the truth?
Prove it's true and we'll talk. (And by prove it, I don't mean "ZOMG teh Bibble sez so!!1!")
Christianity has been used to do bad stuff in the past
Are you calling Fred Phelps the past? What about the Christian missionaries who tell African people that condoms cause Aids?
Religion does not kill people, people kill people.
Do you agree?"
I do. Unfortunately, you're not taking into consideration the millions of people who have been killed in the name of religion. Or the persecution of people whose religion was considered "heretic" or "unacceptable". Or the fact that politics, which affects everybody, is often directly influenced by religious/moral agendas.
Nope, don't agree. Thanks for asking.
"Religion does not kill people, people kill people."
After reading this quote, I can't help picturing a toothed book, similar to the monster textbook in Harry Potter, that goes around attacking people "killer rabbit" style.
Nope, don't agree at all with you bob d.
I agree, sorta, but that means that religion can NOT be given as the best way to attain high morals. Bob didn't explicitly argue that, but it's a common thread even amongst the most tolerant religious folks that you cannot be moral without religion. The evidence suggests that religion has no bearing on a person's morality.
I would hazard that a religion that says to kill witches, gays, adulterers, naughty children (Exodus 21:15-17), beastialists, anyone who works on a Sunday, mediums, astrologers, blasphemers, or anyone at all (on the say so of two people) probably does kill people now and again!
It's NOT the religion that's bad, it's the SOME of the people who follow it.
Just bear that in mind when you say that Christians cannot lie, steal, or be corrupt in any way. When you stand on a pedestal, claiming absolute purity, people will throw mud.
Yeah, I don't really think it's very fundish, it actually raises a good point. Most Christians are pretty good, sane people (like me :)) and we think the fundies are as laughable as you.
No, Because the people sited were religious and did these things under Christian beliefs. Without such indoctrination of prejudices and moral mindset they may have been entirely different people.
Religion kills, tortures, enslaves and abuses everytime it's in power.
Not fundie.
All religions have bad things in their past, and some still have problems, but saying that religion is evil in itself is being an atheist fundie. People who are assholes will find a justification to be so, either based on religion, political or social views. Likewise, good people can be good with or without religion. Being a decent human being or an obnoxius piece of trash is not exclusive to neither believers or nonbelievers.
"Why do people attack Christianity like that? Why do they distort the truth?"
There is no evidence for god. That is truth.
"Sure, Christianity has been used to do bad stuff in the past,..."
And it is used today to further bigotry against homosexuals, groundlessly degrade the achievements of hard working scientists and justify spousal and child abuse. We don't need to look at the past; fundamentalists are making a weapon out of your "way of love" right now!
"...but that is only because people can be bad."
And religion does not seem to make people better, especially when it overrides reason.
Sure, it's like the KKK, the L.A.P.D., lawyers, or the Bush Family Evil Empire. It's only a few bad apples; the rotten little 99% that make the good 1% look bad.
In that case, be consequent and don´t do the same with other religions. And don´t play the non-true-scotchman argument. True, they may be corrupting the religion. The problem is that the rest of the Christians sometimes do NOTHING to avoid it.
I have to agree up to a point, in that I like the NT quite much, at least for the parts that a modern mainstream Christian believes in.
Sadly, this is cherrypicked and contradicted by the OT.
(just for christianity, havent got much experience with other religions.)
Confused?
