Old Man Noah, the Neanderthal didn't need to interbreed with Modern Man because Modern Man is only what Noah's Neanderthal descendents started to look like after first becoming Heidelberg Man due to a decreasing life span during and after the Ice Age.
Try to think out of the usual evolutionist time warp and their classification mentality of our human ancestors as different and separate 'species.'
