If Prop 8 is overturned, it will affect the military. Imagine straight men who will be forced to bunk with gay couples. Imagine how difficult psychologically it will be for the heterosexual men.

Again:
The legality of gay marriage does not affect the number of gay people that exist. There will be just as many gay couples out there if they are allowed to marry, it's just that some will celebrate that love through a marriage ceremony.
There will be gay people in the military regardless if they are allowed to marry or not.
And why the hell would it be so difficult anyway? Bigots having a hard time doesn't concern me. They can learn to be more open-minded and will be better off as human beings, or they can suffer.
"If segregation is overturned, it will affect the military. Imagine white men who will be forced to bunk with black couples. Imagine how difficult psychologically it will be for the caucasian men."
Fixed it for you
Also, I think that people who's daily work involves horribly mutilation corpses can deal with a little gay sex (not that there is any).
'cause homosexual marriage magically means more people will be gay? What? Even if it did magically make more people gay, it doesn't necessarily mean that every homosexual will inform their peers of their orientation.
Personally, if I was a homosexual and in the military, I'd likely not tell anyone because I wouldn't want to deal with the hassle of bigoted types. Just like I don't want to deal with the hassle of my bigoted missionary family knowing that I'm an atheist, and so don't tell them.
Well, 1) there are already Gay members of the Armed Forces (that's what that don't ask/don't tell thing is about)
2) Fraternization in barracks is already heavily discouraged (if not an offense), so your argument fails there too
Imagine how difficult psychologically it will be for the heterosexual men.
Imagine I am holding the world's tiniest violin, and playing it just for them.
It's not gay if it's underway
Also, there are a few openly gay people in the military; apparently in the Navy you don't get out automatically if you're gay, you just get a page 13 that states that you're gay, you'll keep it discreet, and your partner won't be in the military.
Prop 8 took away the right of gays to get married in California, it didn't make us disappear. Prop 8 had nothing to do with gays in the military.
President Obama will likely repeal "Don't Ask Don't Tell" (http://www.tnr.com/politics/story.html?id=501d23ba-e4b1-4e70-ae15-03d05ef546d1 ) THEN your head can explode. And since when do couples (gay or straight) shack up in the military?
Those poor heterosexual men, tell me, do they still call us gay folks 'sissies'?
Anyway, has this guy never heard of Sparta?
What am I saying? Why am I expecting a reasonable level of education?
@ Jeffro
Those poor heterosexual men, tell me, do they still call us gay folks 'sissies'?
Not the big ones. Not to their faces.
Those poor heterosexual men, tell me, do they still call us gay folks 'sissies'?
Only until they call a gym queen with 'roid rage a "sissy". They only do that once.
Prop 8 is California State legislation and cannot in any way affect the US military. This level of ignorance, fear mongering, and outright lying is what people have come to expect from the religious right. I wonder, does it make your "god" happy when you lie, oppress, and slander in his name? That's fundie "values" for you.
Besides under Don't Ask/Don't Tell gays are already in the military on the DL. So you tell me, which effects unit integrity and the heterosexual bigot more, knowing whither or not your fellow soldiers are gay or having to second guess every look, every gesture, and every comment any other soldier makes towards them?
Right. Except Prop 8 has nothing to do with gays in the military.
If you're gonna be a bigot, at least be an accurate bigot, please.
Fail on two levels. Prop 8 will not affect the military's policy on homosexual servicemen and women, nor will a single serviceman or woman ever "bunk" with a couple. Couples either live in on base housing seperate from the singles' barracks, or off-base in locally available housing.
Imagine how difficult psychologically it will be for the heterosexual men.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacred_Band_of_Thebes
The Sacred Band of Thebes (ancient Greek: '?e??? ????? t?? T?ß?? Hierós Lókhos tón Thebón) was a troop of picked soldiers, numbering 150 age-structured pairs, which formed the elite force of the Theban army in the 4th century BC.[1] It was organised by the Theban commander Gorgidas in 378 BC and played a crucial role in the Battle of Leuctra. It was completely annihilated, however, by Alexander the Great under Philip II of Macedon in the Battle of Chaeronea in 338 BC.
Yeah, I'm sure it'll be devastating for them.
This poster jumps to a delusional conclusion that if Prop 8 were overturned that straight military men and women will be "forced" to bunk with a homosexual couple. The key word they use twice is "imagine". Sundial, if you have imagined this, it is only in your head. This idea is not set in reality. You are inciting hostility within yourself and others needlessly.
I have to edit my comment. Apparently, it's only straight MEN this poster is worried about. There is no mention of women in the military. Again, demonstrating which era Sundial's imagination resides.
Why should it be difficult? They are probably already bunking with gay men, of only they knew it. And it makes not a whit of difference. There are already many gay men in the military. So,you are unjustly demonizing gay men as sex maniacs. Ask god's forgiveness for you hypocrisy and judgementalism.
Sorry sundial. Gays probably have more self-control than straights. They have to learn it very early on to survive.
BTW, your prejudice is very much showing in what you have said.
What. The. Fuck.
Die in a fire.
What does DADT have to do with gay marriage in California?
And how on earth do all those other countries' armies cope with the problem of constant, flamboyant, rabbit-like, men-on-men and woman-on-woman action? You know, like the British, German, Israeli, Polish, Italian, Canadian, etc etc. (Here's a hint: It isn't a problem at all )
Have a look at the map
Notice something? Yup, you share the distinction of actively discriminating against homosexuals with lovely countries such as Cuba, Iran, Syria and Yemen.
Well done, land of the free and home of the brave.
Ignoring all the other bullshit in this post, military to military married couples are not allowed to serve in the same command. Unmarried couples can. So, really, it's easier for unmarried gay couples to be in the same command making bigots uncomfortable. So...shut up.
Shit son, I guarantee you, we're already bunking with homosexuals. Not that I have the indiscretion to ever ask such a thing. As for your comment about gay couples, if the military were to ever openly allow gays to join, they'd have to follow the same rules as straights. That is, couples would generally not be assigned to the same command, or at least not to the same division.
Let's see. I'm supposed to be more worried about bunking with gays than getting shot, blown up, wounded, killed, or captured and tortured. I kinda fucking doubt that dog will hunt, Sundy.
"straight men who will be forced to bunk with gay couples"
Are these men going to be deploying to Castro St.?
Since when does the military let people "bunk together" as if it's one big sleep over party.
Why would anyone willingly join the military anyway?
Getting orders barked at you by some frustrated guy with a puffed up neck, and then later getting your legs blown off on a roadmine doesn't sound like anything *I* would want to be a part of!
Especially since the purpose of any of the current wars seems to be solely to secure some oilbarons illegal acquisitions under the guise of fighting terrorists.
Now me, I wouldn't want to be married, not that big on monogamy. But I can totally understand that many gay couples want to formalize their relationships just like straight couples do, and reap the same benefits. That's only fair.
But why on earth would anyone actually want to join the military? Its beyond me really. Cannonfodder is not a job I would consider appealing. Anyone who is excluded from military service should do a happy dance if you ask me. I would!
@Mick "Why would anyone willingly join the military anyway?"
Speaking for myself, there's the college tuition, the guaranteed salary for at least four years, and, especially since my preemies were born, the healthcare coverage (my son's healthcare bill for his first four months was over $1 million US).
Some of us even care about protecting our country, should something happen to it, like, oh, i dunno, fundamentalist terrorist groups flying planes into buildings. Not that anything like that i likely to happen, of course...
So nevermind the shooting people, harsh conditions, being away from family, seeing enormous amounts of death...no, this asshat is worrying about gays in the military being difficult psychologically. Freaking moron.
“If Prop 8 is overturned, it will affect the military.”
Same argument against women in the service, against blacks in the service, against muslims, atheists, witches. The only problem is ever the bigots. always and so on.
“Imagine straight men who will be forced to bunk with gay couples.”
Except it’ll still be illegal to have sex at a command. Couples can’t serve in the same chain of command. Same as if HE’s at a coed command.
“Imagine how difficult psychologically it will be for the heterosexual men.”
I was a heterosexual man in uniform when gays were allowed to serve. Wasn’t a big fucking deal. Same as when i served with black sailors or femaile sailors or Phillipinos, that one hindu, a few muslims, one Vegan….Real Men don’t need to know who their bunkmate’s fucking.
Confused?
