["8-year-old boy attacked by 3 dogs after jumping fence into neighbor’s yard in Clearfield"]
Whatever happened to knocking on the front door to ask for their ball back? No? Oh just enter someone elses garden to get it back even when you know they have their dogs out there - great idea! This kid is thick and mommy need a slap for allowing the little monster to do as he pleases without a thought to the neighbour's property or even common courtesy.
The dogs are NOT to blame - the brat IS!

"mommy need a slap for allowing the little monster to do as he pleases" is unnecessarily vicious. But I agree with the basic principle of this quote. Knock on the door, don't jump over the fence and don't blame the dogs. If you unexpectedly sneak into the owners' territory what were they supposed to think?
They have a point. Don't jump fences. You don't know what is over there. The dogs are the least of this kid's problems. There could have been a paranoid hermit with a gun. Teach your crotchfruit to knock on doors instead of climbing fences. Or better yet, ask their parents to knock on the door instead.
Ridiculously cold-blooded and taking joy in laying blame wherever they can make the excuse but not fundie. Also... not quite wrong, either. Beware of dog signs exist for a reason and a lot of people get dogs specifically as a home defense system. However more than simple thoughtlessness makes kids hop fences instead of knocking on doors, people don't trust each other these days. Hell, they can't trust anyone. When knocking on a stranger's door some people get invited in and never seen again, some people get their heads blown off with a shotgun on the porch. The lucky ones just hear a few more bolts lock into place and never get an answer, or somebody chases them away before they get as far as the lawn.
Actually now that I think about it people who get dogs as a security measure are fairly likely to be as territorial as their pets and run people off if they come knocking. Who can say for certain the kid didn't try the front door first?
He is eight and scarred for life.
No, he should not have trespassed. The usual penalty for a child doing so isn't maiming, however, so WTFed.
@The Reptilian Jew
I agree!
Yeah the reaction is retarded and sick but really the kid was stupid to do it as well. You really need to knock/push the gatebell before entering someone`s place and if the kid was unaware then I blame the parents, who else?
8 years old is really not too young to understand these things, in Poland we have a fuckload of irresponsible dog keepers and the maimed kids don`t even make the news, our children learn that fast about the time they get to walk because they have to.
he's right, but Dog people will defend a dog attacking a kid on the street or park so I don't know if he's one of them.
In general, people who own such attack dogs are little cowards.
Well, I agree that the dogs aren't to blame. After all, they're merely following their instincts and protecting their territory and master. And those parents should be blamed for bad parenting. After all, who doesn't teach their children by that age not to trespass?
But come on, the kid is just an 8 year old, and he and his parents have obvious been punished enough by now. They've hopefully learned their lessosn. No need to twist the knife even further.
Seriously, it's called compassion, OP, I sugggest you try it.
He's eight! He's still at the developmental phase where he'd stick his hand in an old, metal fan for no better reason than "I don't know"!

They did. They have a fence. It's equally unreasonable to hold them responsible for the safety of people who jump it.
@emau99
"Getting mauled by dogs is not an acceptable punishment for trespassing."
For children, I agree. Not sure I would for adults.
While I do have compassion for the kids. It makes me sick that the first reaction is to kill the dogs. Guarding territory is what dogs do! It's like getting pissed at cats for wanting to be in a high spot. 8 years old is old enough to understand that you don't go into other people's yards without permission, especially if they have a fucking fence! Piss poor parenting is endemic and needs to shamed not praised.
Confused?
