Ever since Texas authorities removed 416 children from Yearning for Zion Ranch, the Fundamentalist Church of Latter-day Saints has been making headlines. As is well-known, the FLDS teaches that plural marriage—whereby each man partners with at least three women—is essential to salvation. How does the church get enough ladies to go around?
By kicking out the boys...To reduce competition for wives, the church systematically expels adolescent boys, thus trimming the eligible male population. It's estimated that the FLDS has thrown out between 400 and 1,400 male members in the last decade.
Church elders excommunicate boys as young as 14 ostensibly for bad behavior—like flirting with girls, watching a movie, listening to rock music, drinking, playing basketball, or wearing short-sleeve shirts. Sometimes called the "Lost Boys," they're considered apostates and cut off entirely from their relatives.

fundiementalism in action: tyrannical exercise of pwer, bullying, corruption.
A merely more blatent example of the generality of religious power structures
And what if a girl flirts with boys, watches a movie, listens to rock music, etc.? Does she get one-on-one "counselling" with an Elder? Or does she return to the path of Righteousness by marriage straight away?
(Note: I originally wrote "flirts with girls" ... but hey, that works too.)
And they never wonder that, if it's so evident to polygamy for salvation, there wouldn't be the same number of men and women(more or less), and they wouldn't have to "excommunicate" the boys for those minimal infractions(of course, the girls are not excommunicated. They have to endure their tormentors).
A lot of these boys end up committing suicide. They have no education to speak of, they have no way of functioning in the real world, thinking that they get out and get on with their lives is very wishful thinking.
The ones that do make it, end up in menial jobs scraping to get by. I can understand why they want back in, it was safe within the cult.

Oh, please, you sick freaks kicked them out because you couldn't stand the competition. That list of bad behavior is nothing more than a nonsensical, pathetic list of excuses to get your hands on underage girls. I hope the government carts these psychopaths off to the loony bin or to prison, I really do.
I can understand preventing children from listening to rock music (no, I don't find it ungodly - as a heathen, it's difficult for me to find things ungodly - but I find it very idiotic and unbearably hindering to the ear), but the rest of such "bad behaviours" are insane.
Therefore, I conclude that the list at the end of the message is just an excuse for the church to get more women. I mean, really, playing basketball is a supposed offense?

What the fuck? I would've been so gone from that church.
Uh...and basketball was invented by the YMCA (Young Men's CHRISTIAN Associasion).
I had a dream last night where I had three husbands, and three children who weren't my own (they belonged to one husband or the other thru previous polygamous marriages). I gathered these men had been ... given to me because their respective previous wives weren't considered "worthy", so husbands, children, and assets had been scattered to the wind by some megalomaniac. Anyway, it was awful! What a bunch of wierdos and bums I married! (I think this happened because I had severe menstrual cramps all night as I slept -- and also this is a recurring theme with me)
In those shoes, I would RUN! But these people have been wearing the same pair since birth, it stands to reason that their feet are too cramped up to run, so to speak. Pity them.
Church elders excommunicate boys as young as 14 (...) they're considered apostates and cut off entirely from their relatives.
Being cast out is the worst punishment that social animals and early human groups could inflict on a member, I heard somewhere.
It's a terrible feeling to lose all people who you could turn to for support. Especially at that age, when being self-reliant is rare. Especially if you have no idea how outside world works. It's hard to appreciate the escape from that primitive cult against such backdrop. Those boys probably don't realise they can contact certain organisations for help.
Wait ... each man MUST partner with AT LEAST three women?!
Dang, even Joseph Smith didn't REQUIRE polygamy from each of his male followers -- he simply PERMITTED it.
To all the people saying it's a good thing the boys get kicked out: A lot of these boys/young men have already been poisoned by their culture and are often arrested for having under-aged girlfriends or domestic violence (not that only fundies do that, but they're certainly the ones who try to excuse it with religion...)
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
