Of course the fact that the liberation of black slaves was done almost entirely through the blood of white people who secured the liberty for them they did not seem to want that much anyway has been all but forgotten. Most "freed" slaves went back to their masters to ask to be taken care of.

Idiotic. Freedmen fighting in the Civil War and Nat Turner's insurrection come to mind. As for slaves returning to be "taken care of"... Nothing could be further from the truth. The harsh reality is that soon after the Republican grip was lost on the South during Reconstruction, the Democrats swept into office and passed what are known as the "black codes," which reinstated slavery in every way but name. In short, it was the slaveowner's refusal to relinquish their power over the freed slaves that prevented them from leaving.
The other aspect was fear and desperation; these freed slaves were uneducated laborers with zero workable land or capital, and zero money. Even though the war was over, they were terrified that their former owners would wreak a dreadful revenge on them if they tried to flee or improve their working conditions. Not even radical Republicans were willing to take the step necessary to ensure their enduring liberty, that is, confiscating the land they had been toiling on from the plantation owners and distributing it amongst the ex-slaves.
Moreover, it is extremely condescending and racist to apply this wholly imaginary black desire to be "taken care of" by whites to modern black people. Yes, a disproportionate number still live in poverty; the disgusting vestiges of slavery and racism still stifling their economic liberation. But this does not mean they desire to live by the labor of others. That desire, I believe, is instead held by racists such as YOU.
