all acts whether a building falls and crushes people or a enviromental disaster occurs are acts to have people repent. Yes God could have put His hand down and stopped the storm..He could have also stopped Adam and Eve from eating the fruit, but He gave us choices and He works with our choices, He is long suffering..very long suffering, but everything is done for His glory and our repentance so that we can have the gift of relationship with Him.

And if the hurricane happens anyway, that means that there was one person, somewhere, some place, that didn't repent right. And apparently, god is too bloody incompetent to kill just the bad people, and instead chooses to wipe off the map entire cities.
Or it could be that it's just a hurricane, with no particular moral qualms whatsoever.
Just tossin' it out there.
All i was stateing is that God allowed it to happen, He could have stopped it, but for whatever reason He did allow it.
You miis-understand the repentance...God is always seeking our repentance. If only amazing good things were given to us even when we are wicked then how do we know to repent?..bad things have to happen in order for even just one person to realize that they need to seek God for His mercy.
Btw if every person could repent and did then we would be in heaven with God..not the case..why? because you cant do it..how can you expect a multitude of people to do it when 4 of you cant even repent?
That is why Revelation will occur. at the end there will finally be the place where everyone who is there did repent and seek Jesus, for those who dont.. the lake of fire.
Mattlad, we'll just have to agree to disagree. What would have been the point of stopping Hurricane Katrina and not the tsunami or the several eruptions of Mount St. Helens? Why not plant a great big flood in Sudan while all that genocide was going on? Why not strike Saddam down with a divine storm of lightning?
See what I mean?
Call me fussy...but I know there's a better chance of me becoming a believer if the clouds of Katrina just...parted before they hit land, or if the Tsunami would have just stopped cold, and settled back down. If God's best way of bringing people to him is by killing people, he needs to get a way, WAY better PR team.
God could have ... stopped the storm..
He could have stopped Adam and Eve from eating the fruit,
... He is long suffering...
very long suffering,
we can have the gift of relationship with Him.
Some gift. Pffftt. Like a shit sandwich, but a free one.
Btw, what's with all this "eating of the fruit" business? Wasn't it the seeking of knowlege?
Why do so many people call it an apple?
The problem with the concept of "Adam and Eve' is that the mental maturity of Adam and Eve was like a child. They knew little to nothing about anything according to the story. Being told not to do something will not necessarily prevent anyone from doing it. Put a tree of 'knowledge of good and evil'(which they didn't obviously already have) in front of anyone and they would, even without a 'snake' telling them, would have tried a fruit out of pure curiosity. It's like putting candy in front of a 3 year old then telling them not to touch or eat it. They will. Then punishing them horribly for it and their children forever is just God being an asshole. Did he want them to fail? Why would a loving deity do that?
Answer: If it existed, it wouldn't. But luckily we're all too old to believe in magic and fairytales right?
Confused?
