[Re: an argument comparing a cure to homosexuality to a cure for being black]
I see that as a failed analogy, since being black is a cosmetic difference that has no inherent difference in behavior. If being black gave you an urge to perform socially unacceptable behaviors, you might have a point.
That said, if blacks made up only 3% of the population of the earth, I would see no problem in people proposing a "cure" for being black.

Aren't murder, rape, child abuse, etc. "socially unacceptable behaviors?" Since most of the murders, rapists and child-abusers in the U.S. profess to be Xian, maybe spartakos should be working on a "cure" for Xianity.
Hmm. I'm not sure I see this in itself as fundy.
While the guy is arguing against homosexuality on religious grounds (which is nothing compared to some of the other stuff here), he is making a point with some validity. He has a mistaken premise that gay sex is wrong, but given that mistaken premise he has a point about the being black to being gay analogy being flawed.
And as for the last paragraph, I think this underlines how people are quick to misinterpret sentences based on what they think, want, or fear the other person is saying. He even puts quotes around "cure".
Sort of like not having a problem with somebody who was born with a big birthmark, one which was readily apparent, having that birthmark removed. There's nothing wrong with having the birthmark. There's nothing wrong with getting rid of it if you don't want it, either. It's probably not right that society would make a person feel bad for having said birthmark, but if you have the birthmark, you can tough it out until society changes, or given the opportunity you can change yourself. And I would not begrudge either decision.
You have a good point there Ens but the birthmark/race comparison is also fatally flawed. Your skin colour should be seen as a source of pride and a constant reminder of who you are and where you come from, whereas a birthmark is just a genetic mistake.
And the fact that he has a mistaken premise that gay sex is wrong is bad enough for us to mock and dislike him in my opinion. Plus he sems to think that being a minority is a bad thing.
(P.S I don't actually know what causes birthmarks, anyone care to tell me?)

Niiice.
"Jesus loves the little children/All the children save for blacks and gays..."
Hmm. Don't remember that line from sunday school.
Gay=Socially Unaccepted Behaviour
It's the behaviour that he doesn't have to look at or think about if he doesn't want to, and it still pushes him to think of how to 'cure' them.
That's pretty fundy in my book.
There IS a cure for stupidity, and Kent Hovind should be credited for it. He recommends eating peach pits. Which, as is even noted in the video posted earlier this month, contain cyanide.
So please, by all means fundies... follow the wisdom of Hovind.
"I see that as a failed analogy, since being black is a cosmetic difference that has no inherent difference in behavior. If being black gave you an urge to perform socially unacceptable behaviors, you might have a point."
And the point has gone so far over his head that it must be in the exosphere by now :(
Confused?
