I run into a lot of people who feel "if you don't like abortion, don't get one" is a valid statement. They take an indifferent position, feeling that the abortion issue is comparable to Coke versus Pepsi. Sometimes they might even agree with my values, but feel "it shouldn't be illegal." They utter some nonsense about "women will get it anyway, so for their safety we must keep it legal," or claim it's a privacy issue.
I'm frankly more disgusted by this position. At least die hard pro-choice individuals take the issue seriously, and you'd think the potential murder of a baby would be a serious issue.
It wouldn't matter if outlawing abortions resulted in more overall death from "unsafe" abortions, there's little reason to care about the safety of a murderer. My concern is justice, not life in general.

@ Ivurm: "antiabortion" works, and is more technically accurate. Most of them don't much care what happens to the baby OR the mother after it enters the world, just so long as it enters. A baby with severe congenital birth defects that ensure it lives only a few weeks or months in constant agony is fine.
Most of them eagerly support capital punishment as well. In fact, many of them wish it was used much more frequently than it is, and for more offenses.
"Pro-Life" is a PR buzzword. They really don't have a problem with death.
"Anti-woman" also works.
No, it isn't a "coke vs. Pepsi" type of thing. It is a very serious matter, far too important to leave the decision up to one's congressman.

So pizzlybear (I keep thinking of it as pizzabear) is yet another 'pro-life' fundie who thinks that, say, terminating a pregnancy at 5 weeks is the EXACT same thing as stabbing to death a baby born 5 weeks ago.
Well see, your problem here is believing that abortion is "murder of a baby." You've swallowed the "abortion is murder" and "killing babies" rhetoric by the pro-birth crowd for so long you find it impossible to look at the issue from any other viewpoint.
And when Coke vs. Pepsi was brought up, I was sure the old "Pepsi is made with aborted fetuses" canard would surface again.
So, you're not pro-life, you're pro-justice? And you think a speck of human tissue has just as much rights as a grown woman?
I think that abortion is sometimes the lesser of two bad things, that it's better to not bring an unwanted or severely malformed child into this world, and that each sentient human being has the right to decide what happens to his or her body. Is that "die hard pro-choice", perchance?

If you want to limit the number of abortions to it's minimum, then it only makes sense to prevent pregnancy in the first place. Only fools think telling hormonal teenagers "don't have sex" is going to keep them from having sex, and getting themselves in a position that requires an abortion or a shotgun wedding.
making abortion illegal doesnt make sense either: there are legitimate reasons for having abortions'when a medical need is there. Sometime a pregnancy will endanger the life of the mother too much to let the foetus come to term. In the case of rape, the morning-after pill should immediately be an option, or, in the case of pressure from the family it takes a while for the victim to let those in authority know that the pregnancy would be a rape-baby, and she would prefer to terminate, an abortion should be available.
What pizzlybear is concerned with isn't justice, it's ideology, and no good can come from that.
And there it is. You don't care about women who are already living, have friends and family, perform work that benefits society, have a history in their communities. No, fuck them. The fetus they carry is more important.

Now that the christian right has gone to Cruz, Mike Huckabee has declared that anti abortion organizations and their leaders basically want to keep their "anti abortion" crusade going, because they get huge donations from the christian right rank and file.
