It was a gay bar, for chrissake. Why would a couple of straight guys go to a gay bar and then get pissed because some guy hit on them? Get real. Henderson and McKinney went there to jack a homo. There's no other rational explanation.
Matthew Shepherd was not a prostitute, nor was he a junkie. FFS, he was drug tested during his autopsy and the tox screen came back negative. Do some fucking research, grow a human heart, and STOP BLAMING THE VICTIM.

It was just a public "watering hole".
Matthew Sheppard was tricked into thinking that he was having CONSENSUAL SEX(or maybe friendship or just a lift, he can't say it now)with two men who have already planned to use this as a way to kill him, because he was gay. Again, in which way having sex is more worthy of death than KILLING A PERSON?
If those gays planned to kill him, it couldn't be called "provocation". Moreover, they were two, how could they just walk away when he showed his true colours?
this is the guy who claimed that he didn't hate homosexuals because that would be unchristian and that he only hates the 'sin'. this is also the guy who (under a different username) started a thread called "why I hate homosexuals" which has since been closed. (his explanation of why he hated homosexuals was, so far as I can tell once a guy came into the bathroom while I was peeing and looked at me. also one I saw two homosexuals cross the street. therefore they are molesters who hate everyone. good reasoning huh?)

what version of the story did you read, heartless fuck? those guys SINGLED HIM OUT in a bar for being gay, and then tricked him into thinking that THEY were gay just to get him to leave with them. so they could go and kill him.

I have no problem with gays at all. I could give less than a rat's petunia about any of it but I must admit that the avatars on that forum are about the gayest things I've ever seen. It's hard to take the fire and brimstone comments some of these assholes spew too seriously when you look to their source and find a little pasty, curly haired white dude in cut offs holding a fishing pole and looking quite the queen.
If two guys go to a gay bar(or gay friendly bar), approach a guy that, they confess, they know he's gay, and pretend they're gays, THEY'RE CAN'T CLAIM THAT HE PROVOKED THEM.
The suggestion is illogical for me. Let's analyse the situation. Gays usually try to hit people at gay bars because they're gay but not idiot. They're only ten percent of the population. Therefore, the possibilities of finding a person of their orientation is not high in everyday situations. Tell me this, why would a gay man, in Wyoming(not particularly gay-friendly)go in a car with two strong men unless they had tricked him somehow?, for example, MAKING HIM BELIEVE THEY WERE GAY. Don't go saying that they felt "threatened", because the scenario is ridiculous. Two strong men, I insist, don't feel threatened, no matter how "gay" he was towards them, by a single person in an isolated place(wonder why they were there). Moreover, two people who feel threatened, don't kill in such sadistic way, if they were only "trying to defend themselves".
